_—— In iit mS, ETSI . oe 1A MRS. JACK ROBERT McNEELY Spivey-McNeely Couple Wed Friday In Marvin Banks Presbyterian Church of Marvin, N. C. provided the set- ting Friday for a 4 p.m. ex- change of wedding vows uniting Miss Dana Elizabeth Spivey and Jack Robert McNeely, both of Charlotte. The bride is the grand- daughter of Mrs. J. M. Rhea and Mrs. Margaret Spivey, both of Kings Mountain. Rev.Don Ghant officiated at the doublering ceremony. The wedding music was presented by Miss Joyce McGuirt, organist. Her selec- tions included ‘Speak Softly Love;, ‘Ode To Joy’. ‘If’, ‘Let It Be Me’ and ‘A Time For Us. The Rev. Don Ghant sang ‘The Wedding Song’ before the pro- cessional, ‘Trumpet Voluntary.’ After the vows were spoken, the congregation sang ‘For The Beauty Of The Earth’. The bridal party entered to “Bridal Chorus’ and the recessional march was ‘Wedding March.’ Jim Spivey escorted his daughter to the altar and gave her in marriage. The bride’s gown was a formal design of white jacquard lace with an off shoulder neckline, dropped waist and short, puffed sleeves. The gathered skirt was trimmed with Venise lace and satin trim and ended in a chapel length train. She wore a halo of small white roses with a cascade of white rib- bons in the back. She carried a teardrop bouquet of petite white ‘roses and baby’s breath. The bride’s sister, Mrs. Walt Dallas of Raleigh was matron of honor and bridesmaids were Miss Tricia Wood of Richmond,Va., Miss Leigh Blackwelder of Lake Worth,Fla., Miss Gaye Sigmon of Clare- mont, N. C. and Miss Anne Farmer of Allentown,N. J. All the attendants wore long gowns of wine English net and Chantilly lace with a high Vic- torian neckline, off-shoulder look with leg-of-mutton sleeves and a gathered skirt ending in a small train. They carried nosegays of wine and pink flowers with baby’s breath. The bridegroom’s father was best man. Groomsmen were David McNeely of Austin, Texas, brother of the bridegroom, Ricky Gilsinger, Tony Seagraves and Ronny Ward, all of Charlotte. The mother of the bride wore a floorlength dress of rose Quiana with a matching lace jacket and a corsage of pink roses. The mother of the bridegroom wore a floordength dress of light blue crepe with chiffon overlay. She wore a corsage of pink roses. The bride’s parents entertaned after the ceremony at a beautifully-appointed reception on the church lawn. Decorated in the wedding col- ors, the bride’s table held a tiered cake decorated with wine and pink flowers with baby’s breath and topped with the bride and * groom figurine that topped the bride’s parent’s wedding cake in 1949. The cake was cut and serv- ed by the bride’s aunts, Mrs. Marjorie Beamon and Mrs. Florence McSwain. The punch was served by the bridegroom’s cousin, Mrs. Mary Y ancheski. The tables were set up under the trees on the lawn. For her going away outfit, the bride wore a two piece white striped dress and a corsage of white roses. As the bridal couple were leav- ing for their honeymoon,they were showered with rice from small tulle rice bags distributed to the guests at the reception. Turn To Page 2-B ENGAGEMENT ANNOUNCED-Harold Welch and Mrs. Helen Proctor announce the engagement of their daughter, Miss Terrie Lyn Welch, to Roy Dwaine King, son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy King. The bride-elect is a rising senior at Kings Mountain Senior High School and is employed by McDonald’s of Kings Mountain. Mr. King is employed by Glenn Raven of Kings Mountain and attended Bessemer City High. The wedding will be an event of July 21 at the home of the bridegroom’s parents. RICKY OLIVER Olivers Wed April 21 In Bessemer City Rites Mr. and Mrs. Ricky Wayne Oliver, who were married April 21, have returned from a trip to Connecticutt and are now at home on Cleveland Avenue in Kings Mountain. Miss Lori Scruggs became Mr. Oliver’s bride in a 2 p.m. wed- ding in Bessemer City’s First Wesleyan Methodist Church. Rev. Dick Whitener heard the exchange of vows in the double- ring ceremony. Easter lilies banked the altar and were used in the windows of the sanctuary. The bride and bridegroom came to the altar together. The bride’s wedding gown was a for- mal design of white peau de soie with chapel length train. Her fingertip veil was attached to a lace camelot cap and she carried a bouquet of light blue orchids and stephanotis. Heather Ware, niece of the bride and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Ware, was flower girl. She wore a light blue dress and carried a basket of flower petals. son of the Alan Oliver, bridegroom, carried the rings. The bride and bridegroom received wedding guests at a reception in the church fellowship hall where the weds ding colors were featured in decorations. The bride’s table, overlaid with pale yellow cloth, held the tiered white and yellow cake as central highlight. The cake was cut and served with punch and party refreshments. Mrs. Oliver is the daughter of Mrs. Virginia ‘Scruggs of Kings Mountain and the late Bobby Scruggs. She attended Kings Mountain Senior High School. The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Oliver of Kings Mountain. He is a graduate of Kings Mountain Senior High School and is employed by Lithium Corpora- tion in Bessemer City. The bride is the grand- daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Poole of Gaffney,S.C. and the late Mr. and Mrs. Paul Scruggs of Georgia. Stinson abies Y A I, y ENGAGEMENT ANNOUNCED-Mr. and Mrs. Carl Ray Osborne of Lexington announce the engagement of their daughter, Celia Mon- tise, to John Broadus Linderman,Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. John B. Linderman,Sr. of Route I, Kings Mountain. The bride-elect is a 1979 honor graduate of Lexington Senior High and a 1982 magna cum laude graduate of Meredith College with B.S. in Music Education. She is a member of Kappa Nu Sigma Honor Society and a memb er of North Raleigh Civitan Club. She is employed as sales representative with Omni Business Machines Corp. of Raleigh. Mr. Linderman is a 1973 graduate of Hunter Huss High School of Gastonia and served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1973-75. He received his B. S. in Psychology from Gardner Webb College in 1978 and from 1978-80 was Missionary Journeyman in Salzburg, Austria. He is charter president-elect of North Raleigh Civitan Club and 1983 Outstanding Young Man of America. He is employed as Industrial Development Representative with the N.C. Department of Commerce. The wedding will take place June 23 at 3 p.m. in Jones Chapel at Meredith College in Raleigh. MRS. MARK ALAN CLONINGER Cloningers Wed Saturday At Boyce Memorial Church Boyce Memorial Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church of Kings Mountain provided the setting Saturday afternoon at 3 ‘p.m. for the wedding of Susan Lynn Howze and Mark Alan Cloninger. The couple pledged vows of the double-ring service in an im- pressive Unity Candle ceremony before the Rev. William H. Tyson, minister of the church. N. F. McGilLIII was organist for the program of nuptial music and” Mrs. Linda Dixon was soloist. Selections included “God, A Woman and A Man” amd “The Lord’s Prayer.” John E. Howze escorted his daughter to the altar and gave her in marriage. The bride’s wed- ding gown was a formal gown of white silk organza over taffeta wth a fitted bodice of English net overlaid with Alencon lace pearls and irridescents. The gown featured a Queen Anne neckline and long Juliet sleeves caught at the wrist with tiny covered buttons ending in a point over the skirt extending from the natural waist to the lace border of the hemline flow- ing into a cathedral train. She wore a pearl necklace of her grandmother, Mrs. John T. Mor- ris that was given to her on her wedding day fifty years ago. She carried a bridal bouquet of mix- ed spring flowers with tiny pink and white roses. Miss Kathy Belk of Kings Mountain attended the bride as maid of honor and bridesmaids were the bride’s sister-in-law, Mrs. Vicki S. Howze of Houston, Texas, the bridegroom’s sister<indaw, Mrs. Rhonda Cloninger of Marietta,Ga.,the bride’s cousin, Miss Lisa Schultz of Brookshire, Texas, Miss Donna Myers of Kings Mountain, Miss Susan Tate of Athens,Ga. and the bridegroom’s cousin, Miss Ann Hanes of Winston Salem. Miss Kimberly Scruggs of Houston, Texas, niece of the bride, was the junior attendant. Their dressess were of dusty rose with a scooped neckline of flounced organza. All the atten- dants carried nosegays of tiny roses. Earl Cloninger was his son’s best man. Groomsmen were the bridegroom’s brothers, Scott Cloninger of Kings Mountain, Rusty Cloninger of Marietta,Ga., the bride’s brothers, Gary Howze of Houston, Texas and Mitch Howze of Kings Mountain, Johnny Yarbro and David Ray Robinson of Kings Mountain. Gary Williams of Pratts,Va. was the junior groomsman. Mrs. Howze selected for her daughter’s wedding a floor length gown of deep pink taffeta with a sheer long-sleeved jacket that was pleated at the waist. She was remembered with an or- chid corsage. Mrs. Cloninger, mother of the bridegroom, wore a floor-length gown of powder pink with a pleated skirt and a cape of mat- ching sheer organza that draped to a point in the back. She, too, was presented an orchid corsage to match her dress. Seated in places of honor and remembered with flowers were the bride’s grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John T. Morris of Orange, Va. and Mrs. John A. Howze of Pattison, Texas. The bride’s parents were hosts for a beautifully-appointed wed- ding reception honoring the cou- ple in the fellowship hall of the church following the ceremony. After the first slice of cake had been cut by the bridal couple, the cake was cut and served by Mrs. Linda Schultz’ of Brookshire, Texas, aunt of the bride, and Ms. Kay Tignor of Kings Mountain. Punch was poured by the bride’s aunt, Mrs, Nancy Morris of Fredricksburg,Va. and Mrs. Ann Williams of Pratts,Va. Ms. Wanda B. Ledford presid- ed at the guest register. Later in the evening, the newlyweds left for a honeymoon in Florida. Upon their return they will make their home in Charlotte. The bridegroom’s parents were hosts for the rehearsal par- ty Friday evening,May 4th, at the church fellowship hall. A bridesmaids brunch was held Saturday, May 5th, at the home of Mrs. J. E. Anthony, Jr. Mrs. W. S. Fulton,Jr.w as co- hostess for the occasion. Special guests, other than the bridesmaids, were the mother of the bride, Mrs. John E. Howze, the mother of the bridegroom, Mrs. Earl Cloninger, the bride’s grandmothers, Mrs. John A. Howze and Mrs. John T. Morris, Mrs. Linda Schultz and Mrs. Nancy Morris, Mrs. Ann Williams and Ms. Wanda Led- ford. The bride chose this occa- sion to honor the attendants with gifts. The altar of the church was arranged with seven-branched candelabra set with crystal con- tainers and holding votive candles. Growing ferns and palms enhanced the setting. Pews were marked with white bows and variegated ivy. : The dusty rose and white theme of the wedding featured reception decorations. The main refreshment table held a silver candelabrum of pink tapers, pink snapdragons, pink Gerber daisies and Alstroemeria lilies with fern and gypsophilia. Growing ferns were used in ratan floor baskets throughout the hall. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John E. Howze of Kings Mountain and grand- daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John T.
