Netters Defeat Chargers Kings Mountain defeated Crest 9-0 in a Southwestern 3-A Conference tennis match Mon- day afternoon. In singles action, Brad Jones defeated Tim Lovelace 6-1, 6-3; Jeff Barnette defeated Kevin Henson 6-0, 6-0; Thomas Put- nam defeated Marty Robbins 6-0, 6-1; Mike Bowles defeated Keith Haney 6-1, 6-1; David Per- vine defeated Reece English 6-0, 6-1; and Wes Thompson defeated David Motsinger 6-0, 60. In doubles action, Todd Wilson and Mike Reynolds defeated Lovelance and Henson 3-6, 6-1, 6-3; Rich Scruggs and Davie Lovelace defeated Rob- bins and Haney 6-3, 6-2; and Todd Lovelace and Todd Gossett defeated English and Motsinger 5-7, 6-1, 7-6. The Mounties are scheduled to compete in the Sectional Tournament this week in Shelby. Plonk Oil scored a pair of wins in Dixie Youth Major League baseball action last week at Deal Street Park. Plonk edged the Jaycees 7-6 and defeated Rotary 11-6. In other action during the week, Jaycees lost to C&C Metal 54, Lions whipped C&C 18-2 and C&C edged Kiwanis 3-1. C&C scored three runs in the sixth inning to edge the Jaycees. A double by Lewis and triple by Hollifield were the big blows. Bridges hurled the victory. Moore, Bridges and Honeycutt had singles to go with Lewis’s double and Hollifield’s triple. Guin and Sisk had singles for the losers. Kings Mountain Junior High’s netters scored a 6-5 win over their county rivals in a Western N.C. Junior High Athletic Association match. The two teams were scheduled for a rematch Wednesday afternoon at the KM courts. Brian Jones and Ashli McGin- nis defeated Will Lutz and Mille Arey, 6-1, 6-1, in a tie-breaker to give KM the victory Monday. The regulation matches ended with each team scoring five wins. In another match during the past week, Kings Mountain scored a 7-3 win over East McDowell. The Patriots, now 3-0 overall, will host West McDowell Thurs- day.
