A sophomore, Breakfield compiled a .285 batting average, which was second best on the team, and also was second in runs scored with 10. “He improved tremendously in hitting and fielding,” said Coach David Hef- fner. The Bees outscored Optimist 12-10 Tuesday and defeated the Cardinals 7-2 Friday. In another game Friday, Op- timist defeated the American Legion 10-2. In games Thursday, Plonk Oil defeated the Yankees 14-3 and the Jaycees edged the Lions 9-8. David Jenkins hurled the win and also slammed a double and single to lead the Bees over Op- timist Tuesday. Jeffrey Rogers had a triple for Optimist. Rusty Burgess had a homer and two singles to lead Plonk over the Yankees. Jaycees had to fight off a sixth inning rally, keyed by Chip Cash’s tworun homer, to edge the Lions 9-8. Bullock and Sisk had doubles to lead the winners. Bubba Sellers and Floyd Col- lins had doubles to lead the Bees over the Cardinals. Ernest Mc- Clain was the winning pitcher. Scott Myers had a double and John Bolt a single for the losers. Jeffrey Rogers hurled the win Juniors Play Here Kings Mountain’s Legion Juniors lost their first two Area Four games but hope to get on the winning track here Thursday against Lenoir. Post 155 fell to Forest City 6-5 in 11 innings Friday night and lost to Cherryville 9-3 Tues- day in a game which was postponed from Saturday. The Juniors were scheduled to play at Shelby last night. After hosting Lenoir tonight at 7:45 at Lancaster Field, the JUniors will take a few days off and return to action here Tues- day night against Morganton. A two-out error in the bottom of the 11th inning gave Forest City the victory in a good - ballgame last Friday night. ,. Paul Neisler was the player of the game for the local nine. He pitched four strong innings of relief, giving up just two hits and striking out five. Todd Cloninger led the KM plate attack with 2-for4. Cloninger was the player of the game Tuesday against Cher- ryville. He led the KM hitting again with 2-for4 and played a good defensive game in center- field. Tommy Batchler worked the first 6 2/3 innings for KM and took the loss. Neisler pitched the final 2 1/4 innings. “We made a lot of errors and didn’t hit the ball well,” said Coach Tim Leach. Legion.
