Festival
Scheduled
It’s “pickin time” again in
Rutherford County as bluegrass
and oldtime music fans gather
for the 9th Annual Snuffy
Jenkins Oldtime and Bluegrass
Music Festival.
The festival, held annually in
honor of pioneer banjoist and
Rutherford County native,
DeWhit “Snuffy” Jenkins, at-
tracts thousands of fans from
throughout the United States.
The festival takes place at the
Snuffy Jenkins Music Park,
Island Ford Rd., Cliffside, N.C.,
- beginning at 6:00 p.m. Thurs-
day, June 14th and continuing
through midnight, June 16th.
The park, located just off U.S.
221, 15 miles south of Ruther-
fordton, and 20 miles north of
Spartanburg, S.C., features
rough and hook-up camping,
complete concessions, modern
bathrooms with hot showers.
This year’s show will feature
Doc Watson, Ralph Stanley,
Osborne Brothers, The Lewis

Top Student
Hal Hunnicutt of Gastonia,
son of Mr. and Mrs. Dick Hun-
nicutt and grandson of Mrs.
H.R. Hunnicutt, Sr. of Kings
Mountain and the late Mr. Hun-
nicutt, is Hunter Huss High
School Student of the Year.
President of the Student
Body, Hunnicutt is also active in
the Interact Club and the Na-
tional Honor Society. He was
also a member of the wrestling
and cross country team. He
holds a position in the top ten
academically in the Hunter Huss
senior class.
Hunnicutt’s selection was an-
nounced in the recent edition of
“The Hunter,” high school
publication, which created the
newly created honor on campus.
A committee of three students
and five teachers were given
nominations by the Hunter staff
and asked to evaluate students in
the areas of academics, extracur-
ricular activities, attitude and
contribution to the school.
