FRANKLIN WAYNE GETTYS (Beverly Gay Black) Mary’s Grove Church Setting For Gettys-Black Nuptials Mary’s Grove United Methodist Church provided the setting Saturday for the 6 p.m. wedding of Miss Beverly Gay Black and Franklin Wayne Get- tys. The Rev. Howard Kiser heard the exchange of vows in the double-ring candlelight ceremony. Wedding music was presented by Mrs. Mary Etta Crane, ‘organist, Reed Love, pianist, and Dale Clark, vocalist. The bride was given in mar- riage by her father. Best man for the bridegroom was his father. Dinner Honors Bride-Elect Mr. and Mrs. Menzell Phifer entertained May 31 at a beautifully appointed dinner par- ty honoring Miss Jan Goforth and Gregg Tindall, whose wed- ding will take place June 16th in Bethany Baptist Church of Grover. 3 Guests were served appetizers upon arrival and were later. seated at tables covered with " Turn To Page 7-B Mrs. Debra Carpenter attend- ed the bride as matron of honor and bridesmaids were Miss Denise Putnam and Miss Amy Black, both of Charlotte, Mrs. Emily Blanton of Fallston and Mrs. Patricia Tipton of Forest City. Groomsmen were Walter Get- tys of Ellenboro, Chuck Lackey of Shelby, Ray Dean Carpenter of Shelby and Steven Gettys of Ellenboro. Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Wayne Black of Route 3, Kings Moun- ,tain, are parents of the bride who is a 1982 graduate of Burns High School and was presented at the 1983 Shelby Debutante Ball. She is attending Gaston College and is employed by Alpha Et Cetera. The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Embry Frank Get- . tys of Ellenboro. He is a 1981 graduate of East Rutherford | ‘High School and is employed by ‘Bi Lo in Spindale as Produce Manager. After they return from a wed- ding trip to Gatlinburg, Ten- nessee, the newlyweds will be at home in Shelby. The bride’s parents hosted the cakecutting and after rehearsal party on Friday evening in the Mary’s Grove Church Fellowship Hall. ROXANNA BEAM ENGAGEMENT ANNOUNCED - Mr. and Mrs. Donald B. Beam, Sr. of Route 3, Kings Mountain, announce the engagement of their daughter, Roxanna, to Jeffrey Ray Knight, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Askew of Salisbury. The bride-to-be is a graduate of Burns Senior High School and attended Appalachian State University where she was a member of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority. She is currently pursuing a career in Memphis, Tenn. as an Inventory Controller for Power and Telephone Supply Co. Mr. Knight is a graduate of East Rowan High School and Appalachian State University and is working on a Master’s . Degree in Industrial Administration and Marketing at the University of Tennessee in Memphis, and is employed as an Occupational Marketing Representative for the occupational and Family Counsel- ing Services. (Gwendolyn Ingram) Ingram White Couple Married In Charlotte Greater Galilee Baptist Church in Charlotte provided the setting Saturday for the wed- ding of Gwendolyn Ingram and Robert L. White, Jr. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Ingram of Charlotte and is currently a stu- dent at Johnson C. Smith University as a music education major and works parttime with her father’s company as assistant bookkeeper. The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert L. White, Sr. of Kings Mountain. He is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and is employed at Commercial Credit Business Loans in Charlotte. father, the bride wore a gown o white bridal satin made by her mother. The gown was en- hanced on the bodice, long sleeves, and the six inch hemline with Alencon lace which also trimmed the cathedral length train and the fingertip veil of illu- sion. She carried a bridal bou- quet on a white Bible. Miss LaDonna White attend- ed the bride as maid of honor. She wore a formal length gown in grey trimmed in dusty rose and baby’s breath in her hair. She carried a bouquet of white flowers tied with dusty rose rib- bons and wore pearl beads and earrings as accessories. Bridal attendants were Mrs. Terry Bell, Ms. Andrea Bran- don, Ms. Annette Ervin, Ms. Frances Funderburk, Ms. Wan- da Massey, Ms. Vickie Phifer and Ms. Roslyn Wiggins. They wore long formals of dusty rose pearl beads and earrings, and baby’s breath in their hair. They, carried pink and white roses with light pink streamers attached. The junior bridesmaids, Tonia Ingram and Kim Sanders, also wore long dusty rose formals and carried white, rose, and pink mixed bouquets. Melvin White, best man for the bridegroom, wore a gray tux- edo with a white shirt and dusty rose bow tie and cummerbund. Groomsmen, all attired like the best man, were Douglas Camp, Isaiah Cummings, Norris Hunter, Herbert G. Ingram, Stan Ingram, John Rhinehart, Alfred White, Mirion White, “and Jim Wright. 3 "The bridegroom wore a black tuxedo with tails, gray shirt and dusty rose tie. Steven Cooper was organist and Terry Oats was vocalist for the program of wedding music. Christopher White and Chad- wick White, ringbearers, were at- tired like the adult attendants. They carried the rings on a white pillow topped with lace and pearls. The bride’s family entertained after the ceremony at a beautifully appointed wedding reception at Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte where the pink and white theme of the wedding was carried out in decorative details and appoint- ments. The newlyweds are at home in - Charlotte. MR. AND MRS. J.B. SHORT Celebrate Golden Wedding Day Shorts Note Golden Wedding Anniversary Mr. and Mrs. J.B. Short were honored at a Golden Wedding Anniversary reception on Sun- day, May 20th at the Holiday Inn in Kings Mountain by their 10 children. Mamie and J.B. were married May 19, 1934 and are natives of Kings Mountain, but have resid- ed at their Blacksburg, South Carolina route for the past 34 years. They have 25 grand- children and eight great- grandchildren. Their sons are Bill and Thur- man Short of Blacksburg and Loyd Short of Kings Mountain. Their daughters are Kay Falls, Brenda Bowman, and Janice Hale of Clover; Nell Cook, Mary MRS. PAUL ALAN CARTER (Kathy Hambright) Carters Wed Saturday At KM Baptist Church Kings Mountain Baptist Church was the setting Saturday for a 3 p.m. exchange of vows uniting Miss. Ada Katherine Hambright and Paul Alan Carter. The Rev. J.C. Goare, minister of the church, officiated at the doublering ceremony. Mrs. J.C. Goare was organist and B.S. Peeler was vocalist for the program of nuptial music. Mr. Peeler sang “We've Only Just Begun” and the benedic- tional “Wedding Prayer.” Palms and seven-branch candelabra holding white tapers enhanced the setting. Donald S. Hambright of Blacksburg, S.C. escorted his daughter to the altar and gave her in marriage. The bride’s wed- ding gown was an elegant design of white satin with lace overlay styled with Queen Anne neckline, bishop sleeves with lace inserts and deep lace cuffs on slightly raised bodice. A lace flounce added the finishing touch to the chapel length train. Her fingertip veil and blusher, which was attached to a lace covered band, was trimmed with Chantilly lace. She carried a bou- quet of white daisies, white poms, and apricot miniature car- nations. Miss Sandy Belcher of Spar- tanburg, S.C. attended the bride as maid of honor and “bridesmaids were Carla Jeanne Bridges, Leslie Hamrick, and Rhonda Cooper, all of Kings Mountain, and Beth Carter of Anderson, S.C., sister of the bridegroom. All of the atten- dants wore long formals of apricot voile with off-the- shoulder neckline with satin rib- bon trim and flounced hemline. They wore white lace gloves and their pearl necklaces were gifts from the bride. They carried nosegays of apricot and white daisies, mums and carnations. The bride’s mother chose a pink crepe long gown with long chiffon sleeves, chiffon bow at the neckline and gathered skirt with a white miniature carnation corsage. The bridegroom’s mother chose an aqua crepe long gown with draped bodice, dolman sleeves, V-neckline and diamond motif with bugle bead trim at the waistline. She wore a white Breedlove, kdith Jenkins of Blacksburg, and Judy Jenkins of York. Family and guests were greeted by their granddaughter, Mrs. Gail Stewart and her hus- band, Kevin of Columbia, South Carolina. Assisting in serving were other granddaughters, Mrs. Starr Wray of Washington, miniature carnation corsage. The bridegroom’s father was best man. Groomsmen were Jeff Carter of Norfolk, Va., Gary Carter of Fort Riley, Kansas, brothers of the bride, and Nathan Putnam and Mike Bar- rett, both of Anderson, S.C. After the ceremony, the bride’s parents entertained at a beautifully appointed reception in the church fellowship hall where the peach and white. theme of the wedding was car- ried out in decorative details and Parties Honor Bride-Elect Miss Kathy Hambright, whose wedding to Paul Carter took place Saturday, was honored at three bridal parties recently. A drop-in party was hosted May 17th at Kings Mountain Baptist Church Fellowship Hall by Mrs. Jane Edwards of Cher- ryville and Jeanne Bridges of Kings Mountain. The 25 guests showered the brideelect with miscellaneous household gifts. The apricot and white theme of the wedding was carried out in decorative details and in party refreshments. Miss Hambright received a shoulder corsage of daisies from the hostesses. The bridegroom-to-be’s mother, Mrs. Jake Carter, and the bridegroom-elect’s aunt, Miss Jeanne Holcomb, hosted a’ drop-in shower at the Carter home in Anderson, S.C. May 19th. Party refreshments carry- ing out the wedding colors were served to 30 guests. Miss Ham- bright was presented a shoulder bouquet. The bride-elect’s mother, Mrs. Becky Hambright, entertained May 24th at a cookout honoring the couple at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Bridges. Ham- burgers were grilled and served with all the trimmings to bridal attendants. Miss Hambright took the occasion to present her gifts to her wedding attendants. Mrs. Hambright presented the engaged pair with a grill and ac- cessories as a wedding gift. D.C., Mrs. Kecia Lewis of Ger- many, Mrs. Anita Moss of Kings Mountain, and Ms. Angel Lawson of York.
