George D. Simmons East Gold Street Wesleyan Church In a day when the home is undergoing tremendous pressure from within and without, my heart is concerned that our homes be healed and God given His rightful place in the home. I feel sure that this is a concern of many of us in these days. I am convinced, by years of experience, that a home is never complete unless God is at the center of the family’s decision and relationships. Spiritual life may have its beginning in the, church, but it must experience growth and development in the home. Being more specific-The spiritual climate of the home has a great deal to do with the spiritual climate of the church. For it is families worshiping, praying, working, fellowshiping, and caring together that makes a home, the church, and the com- munity strong. All of us contribute to this healing of the home, and by all of us I mean, the father, mother, children, and any other member of the family that lives together. It is next to impossible to have a happy home where there is con- tinuous friction and division over things, spiritual matters. First, let us consider the father’s contribution: God has, in His great wisdom, appointed the man as the head of the home. Fathers, did you know that God expects you not only to care for the material and physical needs of your family, but the spiritual needs? You are to set the exam- ple before your family in spiritual leadership. You are to be an influence and example to your children, your wife, and to your friends and neighbors. Only God knows the suffering that the wife and children have undergone because of a father ‘who failed his family in this im- portant place in the home. Secondly, let us consider the mother’s contribution to the healing of the home. Here again, we have another God appointed position in the home. One of the greatest influences in the home is a Godly mother. It is almost im- possible to have a Christian home when the mother gives lit- tle or no thought to the spiritual needs of her family. A Christian wife or mother can do more to build and heal a home, the church, and the comunity than any other human. The truth is, that it is usually the mother or wife, that sets the pace in healing the home and making a house a haven on earth. . Her spiritual leadership has been a light for her children, husband, friends, and the world to see. Thirdly, let us consider the contribution of the children to the healing of the home. I feel that we have backing from the Word of God as to the impor- tance of our children in the home. All of us know that our children can be a blessing or they can break our hearts. Their at- titude, their response to discipline, their open mindedness, and their will-, ingness to be a part of the func- tions of the home is essential. It is not always easy for them to understand that as parents we have their better interest in mind. There have been cases where the children were the spiritual leaders of the home. In fact, there have been many cases where the children led the parents to God and to the church. Children are a very important part of the home and they can help in the healing of our homes. I am convinced in my own heart that the only way to heal the homes of our world is to get Bible School Slated David Baptist Church has scheduled Vacation Bible School on June 25th-June 29th from 9 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. Classes will be held for two and three year olds, four and five year olds, first through third grades and fourth through sixth grades. The Youth will meet each evening during the week from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. and especially f back to the Word of God and let God be a real part of our homes.
