V Championship Rodeo is com- ing to Kings Mountain June 15-16-17 under sponsorship of the White Plains Shrine Club for benefit of the Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children and Burn Center. Three performances by rodeo champions representing high schools from both North Carolina and South Carolina are slated at 8 p.m. on June 15 and June 16 and Sunday afternoon, June 17, at 2:30 p.m. Advanced tickets are on sale by Shriners at $3 for adults, $2 for students. Tickets at the door will be $4 and $3. Carl Champion and Tommy Tindall, cochairmen of the big event, say the club is pleased to bring the championship finals of the Carolinas High School Rodeo to Kings Mountain and are pleased that the Shriners could make a bid and win as the host city for the growing recognized competitive sport in high schools in the two Carolinas. Winners will receive ASHLEY WILSON Ashley Celebrates Birthday Ashley Denise Wilson, daughter of Steve and Cindy Wilson of 405 Fulton Road, was honored on her second birthday May 28th at a party at McDonald’s. Children attending were her sister, Crystal Wilson, and Jason Bridges, Jimmy Boheler, and Jessica Barnette. Ashley Denise is the grand- daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Guyton and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Wilson, all of Kings Mountain. Deborah Dye Wins Award Deborah Ayscue Dye of Boil- ing Springs received the Gardner-Webb College Nursing Academic Award for 1984. The award, which was presented to Mrs. Dye during the Nurses’ Pinning Ceremony, is presented - annually to the graduating student who main- tained the highest grade average in nursing courses throughout the program. The award is given by the medical staffs of Rutherford and Cleveland Memorial hospitals in recognition of outstanding achievement. Mrs. Dye is the daughter of Edith E. Ayscue of Garner and is a graduate of Garner Senior High School. She is married to Lee Barnett (Barney) Dye, son of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Dye of 802 Henry St., Kings Mountain. Cathy McDaniel On Dean’s List Cathy Lee McDaniel of Route 4, Kings Mountain, was one of four students from Cleveland County to compile a straight A average during the 1984 spring semester at UNC-Charlotte. Miss McDaniel was named to the Chancellor’s list along with Vonda Diane Foster of 805 Se- cond Street and Laura Laine Herndon of 605 Crescent Circle. To qualify for the Chancellor’s list, a student must complete 12 semester hours with grades of A, B, or C and achieve a quality point average of at least 3.60. June 7. 1984 Shriners To Sponsor Championship Rodeo trophies and cash prizes and the top winners go on to South Dakota for national competition in late summer with all expenses paid. Jonas Bridges, publicity chair- man for the rodeo, said that all normal rodeo events will be featured. These students are pro- fessionals and have already won the right to participate in the finals here. “These are top per- formers and will be performing on stock coming from profes- sional rodeo contractors. The rules are the same as apply for the professional rodeos over the country and many of the rough stock riders are already com- peting in professional rodeos,” he said. For the men, there will be bareback, saddle bronc, bull riding, calf roping, and team rop- ing as well as steer wrestling. For the ladies, there will be competi- tion in barrel racing, pole ben- ding, and would you believe, goat tieing competitions? will send students into the rodeo finals here are: Burns High School student Greg Buchanan will ride a bull, Clayton Porter will participate in calf and team roping, Paul Wilson will exhibit bareback riding and Tammy Wilson will compete in barrel racing and pole bending.
