Alexander, Howard On FUN Bank Board ‘Charles A. Neisler, Chairman of the local Board of Directors of First Union National Bank, an- nounced additions of two new directors. Mrs. Ruby Alexander and Dr. GK. Howard, Jr. are joining the local board, serving an initial three year term of of- fice. Mrs. Alexander serves as Secretary and Treasurer of Alex- ander Inc.; as well as operating a successful real estate brokerage firm in Kings Mountain. Mrs. Alexander attended the Lee In- stitute, Gaston College, and Gardner Webb College. Her civic activities include the Mayor’s Industrial Committee, Bowen Family Reunion Sunday The annual Bowen family reu- nion will be held Sunday, June 10, at Lake Crawford south of Kings Mountain. Ruby and her husband, Charles, reside on Country Club Drive in Kings Mountain. Dr. Howard maintains his dental practice on Cansler Street in Kings Mountain. Howard is a graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill as well as the University of North Carolina School of Dentistry. Dr. Howard serves as Vice Presi- dent of the local Kiwanis Club, a Board member of the local chapter American Cancer Socie- ty, and an active member of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church. Geeper, his wife, Linda and their two children reside on Merri- mont Drive in Kings Mountain. Neisler stated “that the Board welcomes the leadership ex- hibited by these new members.” Alexander and Howard join the reelected members of the First Union Board which include: Charles A. Neisler, Chairman; JE. Herndon, Jr., Vice Chair- man; J.C. Bridges, Dr. Thomas Baker, John A. Cheshire, III, Senator J. Ollie Harris, John L. McGill; Bob Maner, John O. Plonk, Jr., L.E Hinnant, and John A. Young. Lisa White, Andrew Faust, Tracy Horton and Daryl Chen won the top academic awards during KMSJS Awards Day Fri- day and 20 eighth graders and 11 ninth graders were honored for scoring 85 or above on CTBS and CAT tests and all subjects. ‘The eighth grade group in- cludes: Kevin Bolin, Hank Cathey, Tanya Crosby, Patrick Heavner, Bruce Morrow, Wray Murray, Mark Campbell, Ken- ney Potter, Shane Farris, Michele Latham, Ashley McGinnis, Diane Clippard, Gina Hale, David Shaw, Max Davis, Cheryl Sims, Mandy Gore, Suzanne Lee, Jenny Reid and Spencer Stephens. The ninth grade group in- cludes: Ginger Whaley, Lisa White, Loretta Webb, Linda Green, Cindy George, Andrew Faust, Daniel Hamrick, Kimber- ly Moretz, Paul S. Griggs and Kamie Wiggins. Top scorer in math on the CAT among ninth graders was Andrew Faust. Top scorer in English on the CAT was Lisa White, top average in ninth grade science and in total depart- ment was held by Daryl Chen and top average in ninth grade civics in total department was held by Tracey Horton. Grade 8-Algebra-Academic Don Deal To Direct Music Camp Local Kings Mountain High School teacher, Donald Deal, will serve as the Associate Camp Director of the Catawba College 1984 Catawba Summer Music Camp. Aside from his duties as Associate Camp Director, Deal will also serve as Stage Band I and Woodwinds Instructor at the camp. Two weeks of musical activities and events will be open to students between the ages of 14 and 20 as the Catawba Col- lege School of Performing Arts -Department of Music presents the 1984 Catawba Summer Music Camp. The Camp program will in- clude participation in band, chorus, stage band, and percus- sion ensemble as major organiza- tions. There will be special classes, ensembles, clinics as well as sectional rehearsals to enrich the performances of the Camp. Students have the option of commuting or staying on the campus with room and board provided. Sports, recreational, and social events will be planned, including picnics, movies, dances, and parties. POOL OPEN The Deal Street swimming pool will open Saturday for the summer season. Admission is $1 for persons over 12 and 50 cents for persons under 12. The pool will be open from 1-6 p.m. Mon- day through Saturday and 2-5 p.m. on Sunday. SN Thursday.
