CARL GOFORTH ..Celebrate Golden Wedding Day Goforths Are Honored On 50th Anniversary Mr. and Mrs. Carl Goforth celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Sunday, July 1, at a surprise anniversary celebration planned by their daughter and son-in-law, Ginger and Bob Whisnant, of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Family and close friends at- tended a cookout at the Goforth home and took the occasion to present the couple with gifts. The celebration was moved up from November, so that the New Mexico Whisnants could be present for the get-together. The Whisnants enlisted the aid of other family members to sur- prise the Kings Mountain Gofor- ths. While the hosts decorated the Goforth home, Mr. and Mrs. Ben T. Goforth accompanied Carl and Myrtle Goforth to Gaf- fney, S.C. to visit a sister, Bertie Jones. Upon returning to their residence in Crescent Hill, Carl and Myrtle Goforth found the house full of guests and a decorated refreshment table with a beautifully-decorated wedding cake ‘baked as-a gift by Carl’s sister-in-law, Bleeka (Mrs. Ralph) : Goforth of Grover. The gold and white two-tiered cake was topped with the numeral 50 and was cut and served for dessert after the guests enjoyed ham- burgers with all the trimmings. Dinner Honors Couple Miss Lisa Hampton and Chuck Austin were honored Fri- day evening at a rehearsal dinner at Cattletown ‘Steak House. Entertaining together were Mr. and Mrs. Gene Austin, parents of the bridegroom-elect, and Mrs. W.G. Walker of Gastonia, grandmother of the bridegroom- elect. Miss Hampton and Mr. Austin were married Saturday afternoon in Kings Mountain Baptist Church. A roast beef dinner with all the trimmings was served from festive dining tables in the private dining room which were decorated with white linen cloths and napkins, yellow and white flowers and candles. A groom’s cake was cut and served for dessert. The bride-elect was presented a white daisy corsage to wear with her party dress. Guests were members of the two families and wedding party. The bride’s mother chose a green street-length dress and a corsage of white roses. The bridegroom’s mother chose a peach street length dress and a corsage of white roses. After the ceremony the bride’s parents entertained at a beautifully appointed reception in the church fellowship hall which carried out the wedding colors of lavender and white. Three refreshment tables were overlaid with lace over sheer and decorated in lavender and white with silver appointments. The bride’s table held a four-tiered wedding cake enhanced by two cakes at either side and a ladder meeting the center cake. Punch and cake were served with mints, nuts, sweet and sour meatballs and finger sandwiches. Assisting in serving refreshments were Mrs. Juanita Swindell, Mrs. Eddie Bridges, Mrs. Kathy Morris and Mrs. Doris Terry, aunts of the bride. Kim Collins and Rebecca Hensley distributed ricebags. After a wedding trip to Gatlin- burg, Tennessee, the newlyweds will be at home in Kings Moun- tain. Mr. and Mrs. Bobby G. Bridges of Kings Mountain are parents of the bride. A 1979 graduate of Hunter Huss High School in Gastonia, she was a member of the Concert Choir and a bus driver. She is also a 1983 graduate of Bob Jones University where she was a member of Theta Mu Theta Society. She is presently employed by Poffie Girl Bridal and Formals in Gastonia. The bridegroom is the son of Mrs. Phyllis H. Land of Dallas and the late James Frank Land, Sr. He is a graduate of Broad River Christian Academy and a 1980 graduate of Gaston Col- lege. He is presently employed by Temple Christian School and Matthews Belk in Gastonia. The bridegroom’s mother hosted a rehearsal dinner Friday evening at Gospel Baptist Church Fellowship Hall.
