Tryon Team Unbeaten In District Tourney ah i i Thursday, July 19, 1984-KINGS MOUNTAIN HERALD-Page SA Junior High Physical Coach David Heffner said the junior high will field two football teams this year, a junior varsity for seventh and eighth graders and a varsity for ninth graders. All boys and girls planning to play sports at Kings Mountain Junior High School during the 1984-85 school year are asked to be at the junior high gym on August 7 at 5 p.m. for physicals. r- All Mens The Tryon Optimist Dixie Boys 13-14 year old all-stars are on the verge of qualifying for the state tournament which begins this weekend in Kannapolis. Rain has interrupted district play at Tryon, but the local team was unbeaten heading into last night’s title game with Dallas. The Tryon team opened the tournament in fine fashion Thursday night with a 16-0 vic- tory over the Grover all-stars. Greg Sellers of Cherryville and Monty Deaton of Kings Mountain combined to pitch a one-hitter. Eddie Moss collected Grover’s only hit. i Deaton, Brent Bagwell and Kevin Bolin, all of Kings Moun- tain, slugged home runs to lead the Tryon plate attack. 3% kk Marcus Scism of Bessemer Ci- ty slammed a two-run homer in the top of the seventh inning to break a 6-6 tie and give the Tryon team an 8-6 win over Dallas Saturday. Jeff Warlick of Cherryville teamed with Deaton to hurl the win. Deaton got the win Sunday as the Tryon team remained unbeaten with a 16-0 thrashing of Bessemer City. Bagwell led the Tryon hitting with 3-for-3 and Scism and Deaton hit home runs. Dellinger Hurls No-Hit Win In Major Tourney + Kings Mountain’s Brian Dell inger got the District 3 Dixie Youth Major League baseball: tournament underway in fine fashion Saturday afternoon at West Lincoln. The talented KM hurler pitch- ed a no-hitter and registered six strikeouts in leading the KM all- stars to a 16-0 victory over Chapel Grove. Chris Henson led a 16-hit KM plate attack with 4-for4, in- cluding a pair of home runs. Chris Bullock was 3-for-3 with a home run and Chip Cash also slugged a home run. The KM all-stars were scheduled to face the loser of the Bessemer City-East Lincoln game Tuesday night. * kk The Kings Mountain all-stars fell into the loser’s bracket Sun- day by losing a tough 6-5 deci- sion to Bessemer City.
