Notary Course Slated The Continuing Education Department of Cleveland Technical College will sponsor a four-hour Notary Public School class on Monday, July 30 at 6 p.m. in the Campus Center Auditorium. The course, to be taught by Sylvia Dixon, is required of those who wish to apply for a notary public commission from the Secretary of State of North Carolina. Enrollees must have a high school diploma or its equivalent and purchase the ap- proved manual, Notary Public Guidebook, which is on sale at Tech’s bookstore. Registration will be held at the first class meeting. A fee of $10 will be charged, although anyone over 65 may enroll free. For additional information, call 484-4015. Pair Issue Invitation Louise Owens Johnson and Mitch Pietras have issued wed- ding invitations to Kings Moun- tain area friends and relatives to attend their wedding on Sat., Aug. 18th, at 11 am. in Lakewood Baptist Church, Durham. A reception will be held after the ceremony at Bryan Center at Duke University. Ms. Johnson is the daughter of Paul Owens of Kings Moun- tain and the late Christine Owens. BIG RED - When Sammy Anderson of Kings Mountain grows a tomato, he grows one that will last a little longer. In his first attempt at gardening this year, Anderson grew this one pound, seven and one-half ounce tomato. Anderson is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Anderson and is employed by the City of Kings Mountain Sanitation Department. Softball Tourney Set The fifth annual Chestnut Ridge Volunteer Fire Depart- ment Softball Tournament will be held Aug. 10-11-12 at Bessemer City’s Washington Park. Registration fee is $75 and participants supply their own softballs. The One Pitch tournament is a unlimited homerun event for men and women. Joe and Nell Alala, Tommy and Jill Ballard, Grier and Lena Bricklaying Course Set At C Tech A bricklaying course for men and women will begin Monday, August 6 at 6 p.m. in the bricklaying building on the Cleveland Tech campus. The 11 weeks course, sponsored by Tech’s continuing education department, will meet Monday and Tuesday evenings from 6 to 10 p.m. Richard Stroup, a long- time brick mason and experienc- ed teacher, will instruct the classes. The course is designed to give hands on experience in how to mix and spread mortar, lay bricks and blocks, and the proper use of the masonry rule. A plan- ned construction project will constitute a large part of the bricklaying instruction. The registration fee for the 88-hour course is $10 payable at the first class meeting. Persons age 65 and older are exempt by state law from paying the fee. Additional information may be obtained by calling 4844015 Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Gospel Sing Is Scheduled East Kings Mountain Church of God will sponsor a gospel singing Saturday night at 7 p.m. Rev. Randy Warren, a singing evangelist, will be featured in the service. He has played the piano and sung with many gospel groups across the country. Rev. Warren will also be ministering in the Sunday services at 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. at the East Kings Mountain Church of God located on Bessemer City Highway just above Radio Station WKMT. The public is invited to all ser- vices. Gastonian Dies In Wreck From Page 1-A driver of the truck, Thomas Mack Cable, 32, of Route 1, Gastonia, was taken to Cleveland Memorial Hospital in Shelby and later transferred to Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte. Trooper Dale Keenum said the vehicle left the road on a sharp curve, turned on its side and struck the three. The wreck occurred around 3:54 a.m. Assistant Cleveland County Coroner Dwight Tessneer said Wallace died of massive head in- juries. Volunteers from Grover Rescue Squad and Bethlehem Fire’ Department worked for more than an hour to free Cable from the cab of the truck. Cable has been charged with driving while impaired and felony death by vehicle. CORRECTION In last week’s Kings Mountain police report, it was incorrectly stated that Chris Short was charged with assaulting Keith Guin.
