Fite celebrated their Golden Wed- ding Day recently at a reception at Grace United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall. Friends and relatives called between 2:30 and 5 p.m. The anniversary party was hosted by nieces and nephews, including Mr. and Mrs. Ray Grigg of Dallas, Mr. and Mrs. Ted E. Gragg of Charlotte, Mr. ' and Mrs. Craig A. Cloninger of Gastonia and Mr. and Mrs. L.F. Roberts of Misenheimer. Iris Shaver and Rufus Fite were married June 14, 1934, in York, South Carolina. Active in By ROSE TURNER Over 50 children in the “reading club have already read the required number of books in order to earn a certificate. Reading interests this summer have ranged over a variety of topics and include a large percen- tage of nonfiction titles as well as fiction titles. Paula Eckard writes: My favorite book this summer is “new York,” by John Donvan. It was a very interesting book. It told that the kids had to play in the street. When a car came they had to get out of the street. It told about when they went to school and got out. What they most liked to eat is pizza, pretzles, and pancakes. There also were a lot of crimes. I think it was a very good book. Nickie Jackson reports on “The Diary of Ann Frank.” “The Diary of Ann Frank” is a young girl’s diary written down during a war between Germany and the Netherlands. It’s about the pains of growing up and the hardships of war. When war was announced, Ann and her family went into hiding with six or seven other people. Their hiding place, which they called the “Secret Annex,” is on the top floor on an office building. While theyre in hiding they can’t go outside or look out of the window when it is light out- side. Close to the end of the diary, Ann falls in love with Peter Van Doan, who went in hiding with them. Jason Twain celebrated his sixth birthday on June 14th at a birthday party attended by a group of his friends. Carrie Nicole celebrated her first birthday on June 28th with a family party. The golden anniversary theme was beautifully combined in decorative details and refreshments. The three-tiered gold and white anniversary cake was central decoration for the refreshment table which was covered with white cloth. The cake was flanked by gold tapers in silver holders. Silver appoint- ments held punch and party refreshments. that no one but Peter can understand her problems and her feelings. This is a very touching and well written diary. David Jackson reports on “Ex- ploring The World Of Robots,” by Jonathan Rutland. My report is on robots. Robots are machines of any form. Robots are all around you. Some people think robots are supposed to have a form of a human. The robot family ranges from the clock in your bedroom to the car that you drive. Robots are very important to life and the way we live it. Some robots build other robots. That’s how most cars are built, by other robots. Robots, like your pocket calculator and a home computer, actually can work as fast or faster and more accurately than most human beings. Some robots go to the unex- plored. Distant planets are often explored by robots. Robots often help us learn about things a human could never reach. Like the bottom of the ocean where a human body could never go and return. Even when it comes to the na- tion’s defense, robots are still us- ed. Anywhere from the M16 to the nuclear missle. Human beings are so smart, they can build robots. That’s why I don’t understand how robots can take people’s jobs. I guess it’s because they never ask for a raise.
