Raising the perfor- mance expectations of voca- tional students is another goal and awards and recognition will enhance the program as well a continued follow up on voca- tional graduates. : Last year’s graduates in voca- tional education were surveyed recently and of the graduating class 40 percent are in full time employment, 22 percent are in part time employment, and 50 five percent of the graduates said the vocational program was “very useful”, rating' the pro- gram 4.0 average on a score of 1-5. Mrs. Gamble said the report is “excellent”, comparing the local averages with the state wide figures of unemployment among young people 16-18 where 21.2 percent of Cleveland county’s youth are unemployed. She also said a filmstrip on the vocational programs available at KMHS would be made available in the community as well as in- formational brochures. Mrs. Gamble said the 1984 graduates also indicated in the survey that they would have lik- ed to have learned more math, more manual skills, increased vocabulary training, more spell- ing skills, more specific job and leadership skills and how to get along more with others in the vocational courses. A total of 29 percent said the vocational pro- gram kept’ them from becoming high school dropouts and their employers also gave them good grades, 78 percent saying they were well’pleased with work ac- tivity and 80 percent reporting they were highly pleased with work attitudes of KMSHS graduates.
