Another 346 received health professions scholarships. The quality of these new of- ficers and enlisted people coming into the Air Force in 1984 was excellent. Those entering Officer Training School had an average grade point average of 3.12 and scored in the upper 30 percent on their Air Force Officer Quali- fying Tests. And almost 99 per- cent of the non-prior service enlistees were high school graduates, with 51 percent of them scoring in the top two men- their qualifying tests. Twenty percent of those enlisting had 15 or more hours of college credit. During the next 12 months, Air Force recruiters will seek about 71,200 people in all pro- grams to volunteer in today’s high technology Air Force. About 65,000 people without prior military service will be needed; 2,000 with prior military service; 2,836 college graduates for officer training; and more - than 1,100 health professionals. Additionally, about 280 health professions scholarships will be awarded to students enrolled in or accepted for enrollment in an approved school of medicine or osteopathy. ° of Thomas F. and Ida M. Wright of Grover, has completed a U.S. Army basic non-commissioned officer course in Bad Toeiz, West Germany. : Soldiers developed mid-level management skills to be used in supervising and training small groups of soldiers in combat specialists. . Wright is an electronic war- fare specialist with the 2nd Operations Battalion in Augsburg, West Germany. The specialist is a 1981 graduate of Kings Mountain Senior High School. Ingram Promoted Marine Lance Cpl. Gregory P. Road, Kings Mountain, N.C. has been promoted to his present rank while serving with Marine Marine Corps in March 1984. Endowment Honors Harry The John Bishop Harry Memorial Endowment was an- nounced at the Cleveland Coun- ty Historical Associations an- nual meeting Thursday, October 25. The endowment named for an early settler of Cleveland County will be used to help preserve the documents, photographs and records in the - Cleveland County Historical Association/Museum’s Archives. The Archives, a department of the museum, is one of the few in Western North Carolina and is dedicated to preserving the heritage of the Cleveland Coun- ty area. John Bishop Harry was born in Maryland, but moved to Lin- colntown in Lincoln County, North Carolina in 1806. There “John Bull” as he was known, opened a tavern and Inn. He was, also a silversmith, clock maker and a gun maker. In 1835 John Bishop Harry was a North Carolina Senator representing Lincoln County. He took an ac- tive part in the organizing of Cleveland County when it was * formed in 1841 from Lincoln and" Rutherford Counties. He also helped survey the new coun- ty and the town of Shelby, where he served as auctioneer for the city plots. Later “John Bull” became a large landowner between Buffalo Creek and the South Carolina line near the pre- sent town of Grover. He was the progenitor of the Harry families which built the Minette Mill in 1919. His descendants stretch - from Texas through Virginia. Anyone interested in helping preserve the documents, records and photographs of Cleveland County are invited to contribute to this non-profit endowment.
