Boys Club Has Good Year
The Kings Mountain Boys
Club has had a successful season,
‘reports Club Director, Danny
McDowell, who has organized a
variety of season-long activities
for youth of the area.
So far this year, members have
gone on several field trips, visited
the North Carolina Zoo,
Discovery Place, Carowinds,
Schiele Museum, Diamond Jim
Game Room, Eastridge Mall,
Atlanta Braves baseball game,
and a Clemson University foot-
ball game.
Arts and crafts activities were
popular and the club also en-
joyed a cookout at Kings Moun-
tain National Military Park.
The Boys Club auction, held
to pay off a recently-purchased
van which is used to transport
members to various activities
and athletic contests, was very
successful.
The fall soccer teams had
tremendous seasons and the
summer basketball league was
successful.

County, will keynote the morn-
ing session. Lunch will be served
at the noon hour.
The afternoon workshop at
1:30 p.m. will be on the theme
“Municipal Concepts, Objectives
and Operations” and will be led
by representatives of the N.C.
League of Municipalities who
will be followed by legal experts
who will discuss “Legal and
Financial Planning”, including
City Attorney George
Thomasson and Assistant City
Attorney Mickey Corry. Dr.
E.O. Sloan will lead a workshop
on “Personnel Development
Policies” and representatives of
the Department of Natural
Resources will lead such topics
as “Solid Waste and Pollution
Control” and “Clean Water.”
Departmental planning and
training projections will be em-
phasized in the closing session of
the afternoon.
Napoleon Bonaparte, banker J.P. Morgan and novelist
Leo Tolstoy were all avid solitaire players.

marize the two-day workshops at
8 p.m.’s closing session Tuesday.

workshops and appreciate those
who are coming from out-of--
town to participate in what we
feel is an outstanding seminar for
a city this size,” Mayor Moss
said. :

begin soon. The basketball pro-
gram is designed to teach boys
the basic fundamental skills of
basketball and to emphasize
sportsmanship and teamwork.
Registration will be held at the
club on ‘Sat., Nov. 24; Tues.,
Nov. 27; Thurs., Nov. 29; Sat.,
Dec. 1; Tues., Dec. ‘4; and
Thurs., Dec. 6. Register during
club hours, which are from 4-8
p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays
and 9 a.m. until 3 pam. on Satur-
days.
Team selections will be held
on Sat., Dec. 8 at 11 a.m. at the
Central School gym.
Kings Mountain will play
teams from Concord, Shelby,
Gastonia, Charlotte, Asheville,
Burlington, Wilmington,
Winston-Salem, Monroe,
Greensboro, Statesville, - Gaff-
ney, Columbia, Tennessee and
Virginia.
Any boys ages 7 to 16 are urg-
ed to join the club. For more in-

Upcoming events at the club
include ping pong tournaments,
pool tournaments, one-on-one
games, free throw contests, hot
shot contests, skating and visits
to basketball games at Gardner-
Webb, Limestone, Clemson and
North Carolina.
