In Candlelight Ceremony

provided the setting Saturday for
a 6 p.m. candlelight wedding
uniting Miss Deborah Yvette
Appling and Robert Bugg Bran-
nan, III in marriage. !
The couple pledged vows of
the impressive double ring
ceremony . before the Rev. Ed
Sessom. :
Mrs. Jack Lail was organist
for the program of traditional
music and vocal numbers were
by Ann Bumgardner of Kings
Mountain and Maurice Watson
of Forest City.
Larry Appling escorted his
daughter to the altar and gave
her in marriage. The bride’s wed-
ding gown was a formal design
of ivory georgette over taffeta
fashioned wih a basque bodice,
‘manderin neckline and long,
bishop sleeves. The sheer French
wisquisette yoke was entirely
enhanced with pearls and the en-
tire bodice, sleeves and collar
were overlayed with French im-
ported re-embroidered Alencon
lace. Seed pearls enhanced the
lace pattern handwork. The very
full bias cut skirt held an attach-
ed cathedral train with. wide
scallops of lace bordering the
hemline and train. Her cathedral
length French illusion veil was
draped from a matching lace
‘bandeau with accents of pearls
and iridescents. She carried a
bridal bouquet of white roses
and stephanotis.
Kim Devane of Colorado Spr-
ings, Colorado attended the
bride as matron of honor and
bridesmaids were Kathy Belk of
Kings Mountain, Sandy Appling
of Grover, Cathy Moore of
Gastonia, Tricia Blalock of
Blacksburg, S.C., Angie Kircus
of Belmont, Autumn Moss of
Conway, S.C. and Laura Huff-
stetler of Myrtle Beach, S.C.
All attendants wore long holi-
day red formals designed with
long bishop sleeves, fitted waist,
round necklines which dipped to
low V in the back, and long
skirts enchanced with a semi-

p.m. wedding uniting Miss
Vickie Elaine Boheler and James
Dearing Johnson.
The couple pledge vows of the
double-ring ceremony before the
Rev. Lindy Cannon, Hospital
Chaplain of Memorial Mission
Hospital at Asheville in the
presence of their immediate
families.
Rob McElroy was guitarist-
vocalist for the program of nup-
tial music. ?
An arch intertwined with
flowers in the wedding colors
centered the candlelight setting
for the exchange of vows in the
Laurel Room of the Grove Park
Inn.
. The bride; given in marriage
by her father, wore a formal
white wedding gown of chiffon
featuring a Chantilly lace fitted
bodice with a high neckline and
long, sheer sleeves of lace. The
skirt fell in layers of chiffon and
Chantilly ending in a beruffled
Chapel length train. A white iat-
tice hat adorned in netting with
small silk flowers and pearls was |
edge in pearls and a net pouf
formed the top of the veiling.
She carried a bouquet of
cranberry colored carnations
‘and white rosebuds in a bridal
bouquet.
Jan McElroy of Knoxville,
Tennessee attended the bride as
matron of honor and only atten-
dant. She wore a cranberry for-
mal and carried a bouquet of
cranberry and white flowers.
The bridegroom’s father was
best man.

Leach, who were wed Friday,
are on a wedding trip to New
Y ork City and afterwards will be
at home in Boone.
Miss Lisa Logan Herndon
became Mr. Leach’s bride in a 7
p.m. Candlelight wedding in
Kings Mountain Baptist Church.
Rev. J.C. Goare officiated at the
impressive ceremony which in-
cluded the lighting of the Unity
candle after the exchange of
vows and rings. :

(Chip) McGill and Laura Hern-
don, sister of the bride, were
vocalists. Mr. McGill sang “God
. A Woman and A Man”, “The
Wedding Song” and “The Lord’s
Prayer” and he and his fiancee,
Laura Herndon, sang together
“A Wedding Benediction.” The
congregation joined in singing
the hymn “Joyful Joyful We
Adore Thee” and the marriage
ceremony included the reading
of I Corinthians 13.
* The prelude of wedding music
featured violinists Paul and
Peter Chen, twin sons of Dr. and
Mrs. K.F. Chen, who played
“Hymn of Joy” and Bach’s
“Bouree In G Major”. Other
organ numbers included “Sheep
That Safely Graze”, “Wondrous .
* Love”, “Chorale On Now Thank
~
We All Our God”, “Thanks Be
To Thee”, “Good Christian Men
Rejoice”, “The First Noel”,
“Minuet” and “Jesu, Joy Of
Man’s Desiring” by Bach.
The altar of the church was
enhanced by two tall lighted
Chrismon trees and the safnc-
tuary was lighted entirely by
many candles, including candles:
in the windows and pew markers
of hurricane lamps holding
tapers arranged with white satin
bows. A large candle display in
the vestibule and the en-
tranceway and steps garlanded
with greenery and enhanced
with candles and Christmas red
velvet bows enhanced the holi-
day and candlelight setting.
Given in marriage by her
father, the bride wore a formal
wedding gown designed by Jan
Kostrobola for Mori Lee of
white taffeta accented with
Alencon lace and pearls and
enhanced by split wedding band
collar and leg o’'mutton sleeves.
A pleated panel ornamented the
front of the gown and a stunning
peacock train complimented the
elegant design. Her fingertip veil
of illusion was attached to a
camelot cap of pearls and
crystals and she carried a bridal
bouquet of white sweetheart
roses, stephanotis and baby’s
breath.
For “something old” the bride
carried a handkerchief of
Belgium lace that was a gift of
her maternal aunt, Mrs. Sally
Logan Carpenter and a handker-
chief of Venetian lace which was
a gift of her maternal uncle, W.
Lawrence Logan, Jr. and wore a
pearl necklace given her by her
maternal uncle, W. Lawrence
Logan, Jr. For “something blue”
she wore a blue garter that was
worn by her maternal aunt, Mrs.
Mary Helen Logan Tate on her
wedding day.
Miss Laura Herndon attended
her sister as maid of honor and
bridesmaids were Miss Melanie
Herndon, sister of the bride;
Miss Audrey Leach, sister of the
bridegroom; Miss Regina Patter-
son of Kings Mountain, Mrs.
. Pat Potter of North Myrtle
Beach, S.C." and Mrs. Alice
Layne of Conover, former col-
lege roomate of the bride.
All attendants wore long for-
mals of emerald green .satin
designed with puff sleeves and
long skirts with embroidered
bodices. They carried brandy
snifters holding candles arranged
with cream velvet streamers and
variegated holly.
Miss Angie Farris, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Paul Farris of
Kings Mountain, was flower girl.
She wore a white taffeta dress
styled like the honor attendants
with an emerald green sash and
carried a basket of white flower
petals.

Hospital School of Nursing. She
is employed in ‘Charlotte by
Charlotte Memorial Hospital in
Labor & Delivery.
The bridegroom is the son of
Mrs. Maria Newton of Gastonia
and the late Fred R. Newton. He
"is a 1972 graduate of Ashbrook
High School and attended
Gaston College for two years.
He is employed by Winn Dixie
of Gastonia.

Dr. and Mrs. James R. Mason
of Gastonia announce the ar-
rival of their second daughter,
Catherine Lauren, Dec. 26th.
The baby arrived at 1:18 at
Gaston Memorial Hospital ‘in
Gastonia and weighed 7 pounds,
13 ounces and was 19 inches
long.
Other member of the Mason
family is Catherine Lauren’s
sister, Megan. .
Dr. Mason is a Kings Moun-
tain optometrist.
