Development Center in
Charlotte. The Mitchams have
moved to Charlotte, where they
will establish two separate of-
fices for the family ministries
they will direct. Jane will
develop a family education,
enrichment,” and counseling
center in conjunction with the
Lutheran churches of the
Charlotte area. It will be one
aspect of the statewide Division
of Family Ministries directed by
her husband.
Since the Rev. L. William Mit-
"cham was ordained in 1964, the
Mitchams have worked in South
Carolina. “Mitch”, as he is affec-
tionately known to many in the
South Carolina Synod, served as
assistant to the Bishop of that
synod for the past 16 years. His
former responsibilities include
Educational Ministries, Campus
Ministries, Youth Ministries,
Parish Life and Ministry
Development. Family Life
Education and Ministry of the
Laity. In May, 1985, he will
receive the Doctor of Ministry
degree from Eastern Theological
Seminary at Philadelphia, Penn-
sylvania, in Marriage and Fami-
"ly Therapy. In addition to his
preparation for the Doctor of
Ministry degree, “Mitch” is a
certified marriage and family
therapist by the American
Association for Marriage and
Family Therapy. He is also cer-
tified as instructor of Parent Ef-
fectiveness Training, Transac-
tional Analysis, and Youth Ef-
fectiveness Training. His studies
at the University of South
Carolina, where he earned a
Master of Education Degree,
and she has
qualify him as a group counselor
for family guidance with com-
municative skills in counseling.
With his tested and proven
organizational, administrative,
and leadership abilities as Assis-
tant to the Bishop of the South
Carolina Synod, he is immanent-
ly qualified for this new position.
Jane has not been idle during
these years her husband has
been ‘serving the church. Since
graduation from Lenoir-Rhyne
College she has earned an
M.A.T. Degree in Health Educa-
tion and a Ed.D. Degree in
Health Education Administra-
tion from the University of
South Carolina. She has had a
wide experience in both church
and community service. Jane has
published in professional jour-
nals and in numerous church
publications. Her special interest
has been Parenting and Mar-
riage Enrichment Education,
served as co-
facilitator of numerous courses
and retreats. Among the many
honors she has received for her
outstanding achievements and
services in the field of education
is the 1983 President’s Award
for “Exemplary Leadership in

Mitchams Direct Ministry
Education” from the South
Carolina Association of Health
Education. Jane is a professional
in her own right and Lutheran
Family Services is fortunate to
have her head up the Charlotte
Project.
The Mitchams have two
children: a daughter, Tamera
Lynne, who is married and lives
in Columbia, and a son,
Jonathan Todd, who is presently
enrolled at the University of
South Carolina. .
The South Carolina Lutheran
in its tribute to the Mitchams
following his resignation of the
Synod position stated, “A great
team...this Mitch and Jane!
They have shared their com-
plimenting skills, bringing to us
such love and understanding
through their retreats,
workshops and conferences,
making us all beter ‘folks’ How
fortunate we are in North
Carolina to have Mitch and Jane
return here to direct programs
for Lutheran Family Services.
Their leadership will surely help
make us “better folks,” and that
is the purpose of this new Divi-
sion of Family Ministries.
Sharing, Caring
