Redmond, 88, of Atlanta, died Thursday at Clayton General Hospital in Atlanta. A native of Swain County, N.C., he was a retired minister - and member of Second Baptist Church, Kings Mountain.. He was the son of the'late James William and Jeannie Gibbs Red- mond and was married to the late Macie Haynes Redmond. He is survived by two sons, Doytt Redmond of Germany and James Talmadge Redmond of Charlotte; two daughters, Mrs. Marjorie Lou Bateman of Newport News, Va., and Ms. Minnie Lee Fortenberry of Gastonia; one brother, James Redmond of Maryville, Tn.; two sisters, Miss Dorothy Redmond and Mrs. Jennie O'Neil, both of Asheville; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. (Becky) Stewart of Kings Mountain, were con- ducted Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. from Calvary Baptist Church in Asheville by Dr. James Johnson, interment following in Asheville. Mr. Hicks died Sunday at his home. A Cleveland County native, he was the retired superinten- dent of missions of the Bun- combe Baptist Association and a former Baptist minister. He was the son of Bessless Ware Hicks of Asheville and the late Joseph G. Hicks. Rev. Hicks, who had resided in Buncombe County for 20 years, was a graduate of Gardner Webb College. He earned his B.A. degree from Wake Forest College and a M.A. degree from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky. He was ordained at the First Baptist Church in Kings Mountain in 1944. Hicks pastored churches in Kentucky, North Carolina and South Carolina, including Old Fort Baptist Church, First Baptist Church in Liberty, Oakdale Baptist Church in Spencer, Stallings Baptist Church in Salisbury; and Westwood Baptist Church in Asheville. In 1972 he became Director of Missions at the Bun- combe Baptist Association, a position he held until retirement. He was a member of West ‘Asheville Baptist Church and a former member of the Rotary Club. While residing in Old Fort, he was active in the Chamber of Commerce. Surviving, in addition to his mother and sister, are his wife, Martha Hicks, of the home; two sons, Mike and David Hicks of Asheville; a daughter, Mary Beth Hicks of Asheville; four brothers, H.E. Hicks of Black Mountain, Robert Hicks of Des Moines, Iowa, Jack Hicks of Wauwatosa, Wis., and Charles Hicks of Little Rock, Calif.; and seven sisters, Nina Parks of Nebo, Verna Pressley of Blacksburg, S.C., Lillian Dwyer of St. Petersburg, Fla., Margret- ta Blanton of Shelby, Mary Allison of Old Fort, Melba Hem- mings of Rural Hall and Shirley Adams of Spartanburg, S.C. Stowe, 57, of Belmont, brother of Barbara Willis of Kings Mountain, were conducted Fri- day afternoon at 2:30 p.m. from Wall’s Baptist Church by Rev. Junior Clark, interment follow- ing in the church cemetery. Mr. Stowe died Tuesday in Mecklenburg County as the result of an automobile accident. He was a native of Gaston County, son of the late John and Cassie Dees Stowe.
