i i mse ieee ——— Meeting Set February 22 Two organizations are teaming up on February 22 to sponsor an area meeting for people interested in the use of wood in home construc- tion. The day-long meeting, which will be held at the Ramada Inn--Coliseum in Charlotte, will be sponsored by the North Carolina Builders Association and the North Carolina Agricultural Extension Service. Nancy Abasiekong, Cleveland County Home Economics Extension Agent, said the purpose of the Harris Begins Seventh Term In N.C. Senate Seven-term Senator J. Ollie Harris of Kings Mountain returned to Raleigh this week for the 1985 legislative ses- sion where he ranks fourth in seniority in the 1985 Senate. A Democrat, Harris, Kings Mountain mortician and owner of Harris Funeral Home, ran unopposed for re- election. The North Carolina legislature opened the new term on Tuesday with a new Governor, Republican Jim Martin, and with many new faces. Senator Harris said he plans to introduce several bills concerning health and welfare, as well as those in- volving local legislation. Em- phasis will be placed on cost and energy saving building techniques. It is estimated that the in- formation could save builders from $150 to $500 in the construction of an average house. It could also result in the wood lasting longer and being more sat- sifactory to the homeowner. The February 22 meeting is one of ten such meetings planned across North Carolina in late January and February. Speakers will come from the Extension Service at North Carolina State University and the American Plywood Associa- tion. 7 Persons ‘interested in at- tending the meeting should contact the Cleveland County Extension Office or the local chapter of the North Carolina ‘Home Builders’ Association. Bridal Shower Given For Kim A miscellaneous drop-in bridal shower on Jan. 15th at First Wesleyan Church Fellowship Hall honored Kim Collins, whose marriage to Ricky Butler took place Jan. 25th. Entertaining together were Glenda Belk, Kathy Butler, Claudette Corn, and Donna ~ Butler. The wedding colors of blue and white were featured in decorative details and in par- ty refreshments. Decorated cake squares were served with mixed nuts, mints and punch. Guests called from 7 until 8:30 p.m. and showered the bride-elect with gifts for her new home. Butlers Host Jan. 24 Dinner Mr. and Mrs. Claude Butler” entertained Jan. 24th at a rehearsal dinner honoring their son, Ricky Butler and his fiancee, Kim Collins. The dinner was held in the Fellowship Hall of First Wesleyan Church. The 32 guests were members of the two families and wedding party. The wedding colors of blue and white were featured in the decorations. Inman Going To Gastonia WBTV’s news anchor Bob Inman will visit Gastonia, N.C. for his ‘‘Hometown Carolina’ feature on Friday, February 8th. If weather permits, Bob and his camera crew will fly to Gastonia in ‘Sky 3” (WBTV’s helicopter). At 3:30 p.m. they will be located in front of the Gaston Count Courthouse, where Bob will be meeting and greeting the local townspeople.
