Five-Car Accident Causes High Damages A five car pileup on York Road Wednesday morning at 6:50 a.m. resulted in no in- juries to the drivers but in high property damages. Sgt. Houston Corn of the KM Police Department said that the smashup occurred when Mildred Adams, of Route 1, operating a 1976 Ford on York Road turned left in front of another car operated by Betty Clinton of Northwoods Drive. The Adams car then struck a car operated by Ricky Allen of Route 1, Grover, bounced off his car and hit a fourth car operated by David Hopper of Gastonia and knocked the Hopper car into the fifth car, a 1981 Chevrolet, operated by Sythath Himpraphanh of 705 Princeton Drive. Damages totaled $2625. Mrs. Adams was charged with unsafe movement. ~ Larry Bingham of Fallson, sdriver for National Linen Ser- ‘vice, considered himself a lucky man Wednesday. He was standing in the sidedoor of the linen truck taking out towels for a customer when the truck was struck by a 1976 Chevrolet operated by Maven Seabolt, of Route 6, traveling on West Mountain St. Damages were estimated at $300. Born on a farm in the Bethware com- munity to the late Alexander and Rachel Fulton Harmon, Mrs. Goforth was one of 12 children. Only surviving brother is her younger brother, Thomas E. Harmon, of Gastonia, who is 82. Mrs. Goforth’s hus- band, Robert Grady Goforth, died when their daughters were small and Mrs. Goforth went to work to support the family and to educate her children. Because she had learned to sew at the age of nine at her mother’s knee, Mrs. Goforth decided to go into that business. As a young mother she took a job with the late Monroe Rhea sewing shades and draperies at the old Margrace Mill Store and from there went to work for Neisler Mills.
