Team members are, first row, left to right, Charles Sisk, Sonny Adams, Smack Wilson, Vern Tipton, J.B. Sisk and Buddy Rice. Second row, Bill Schoner, Paul Houser, Tommy Henson, David Myers, Kevin Wheeler and Tommy Queen: Back row, James Mintz, Gary Dowda, Pat Capter and Bobby Dowda. Clevemont Wins Slowpitch Tipoff Tourney Saturday Clevemont Mills is favored to win the 1985 Kings Moun- tain Men's Industrial Slowpitch Softball title after defeating Osage for the championship of the league’s Tipoff Tournament Saturday night. Members of the winning «1. were Charles Sisk, Son- ny Adams, Smack Wilson, Vern Tipton, J.B. Sisk, Buddy Rice, Bill Schoner, Paul Houser, Tommy Henson, David Myers, Kevin Wheeler, Tommy Queen, James Mintz, Gary Dowda, Pat Capter and Bobby Dowda. Members -of the Osage team were Larry Arrwood, James Clark, John Codgell, Willie Floyd, Roger Hill, Rob Holt, Ronnie Hudson, Tadd Toney, John Vivets, Jeff Shuford;. Mark’ @Waay: and © Vance Wilson, #05 a e5% Clevemont had a first round bye and then defeated Park Yarn and Osage to make the championship game. Osage defeated Kin- mont and Spectrum before losing to Clevemont in the semi-finals. Osage then ousted Spectrum in “the loser’s bracket finals to earn another shot at Clevemont. Selected to the all- tournament team were Ronald Crawford, Terry Bullock, Mickey Moss, Scott Cabaniss, Darrell Queen, Bob Davis, Pete Moore, Vance Wilson, J.D. Clark, Robbie Holt, Willie Floyd, David Myers, Gary Dowda, Charles Sisk and Tommy Henson. Regular season action got underway Monday night and will continue each Monday and Wednesday thorugh June 24. The camp, directed by KMHS Coach Larry Sipe, is open to boys and girls in grades three through nine. The camp will run from 8 a.m. until noon each day. Applications will be pro- cessed on a first come, first serve basis. Only 35 campers will be accepted for each ses- sion. The objective of the camp is. to provide individual in- struction in all phases of ° basketball, to introduce young athletes to an agility program which will aid their growth and development, to obtain objective data regar- ding players, and to develop the proper mental attitude toward the game of basket- ball. Each camper will receive a camp T-shirt, basketball, handbook and certificate. Trophies will be awarded to the outstanding campers and obstacle course winners. Coach Sipe has served as head. coach at KMHS for two years and - was the Southwestern 3-A Con- ference’s Coach of the Year during the 1984-85 season. Prior to coming here, he served 11 years as jayvee coach at Washington High" School, where he helped turn out two state championship teams and two All-American players in Alvis Rogers and Dominique Wilkins. He has worked with outstanding coaches such as Dean Smith of North Carolina, Bill Foster of Duke and South Caroilna, Lee Rose and Mike Pratt of UNC-Charlotte and Dave Patton of East Carolina. Sipe will again serve on Dean Smith’s Carolina basketball camp staff this summer.
