MICHAEL JEFFERY FALLS Branch-Falls Couple Speak Marriage Vows Christian Freedom Baptist Church of Kings Mountain provided the setting Satur- day, April 20th, for the 2 p.m. wedding of Miss Kathy Darleen Branch and Michael Jeffery Falls. The bride’s pastor, Rev. Sam Snyder heard the couple exchange vows of the double- ring ceremony before a background of greenery and lighted blue tapers in spiral candelabra. Special pews were marked with white bows and other pews were marked with blue bows. The bride, escorted to the altar by her father, Kenneth Branch, and given in mar- riage by her parents, wore a formal Victorian styled wed- ding gown of white lace and organza, with Chapel train. Her shoulder length veil of il- lusion was attached to a lace cap. She carried a bouquet of white roses, carnations and blue baby’s breath. DeAnna Lovelace of Kings Mountain was pianist for the program of nuptial music and Willard Lovelace was vocalist. . Miss Tammy Pennington of Gaffney, S.C. attended the bride as maid of honor and Janel Overcash, sister of the bride, was bridesmaid. The bridegroom’s niece, Jennifer Falls of Lenoir, N.C., was flower girl. They wore blue formals of chiffon and lace and carried white mums with blue streamers. The flower girl carried a white basket with blue petals and blue rib- bons. The bridegroom chose his father, Doytt Falls as best man and ushers were Kevin Branch, the bride’s brother of Gaffney, S.C., and Kevin Falls of Lenoir, N.C., brother of the bridegroom. The bride’s aunt, Merrill Coleman presided at the guest register and Holly Robinson, and Crystal Green, nieces of the bridegroom distributed rice bags. The bride’s mother wore a mauve formal gown of crepe and chiffon. The groom’s mother was dressed in a for- mal aqua gown of crepe and chiffon. They wore corsages of white carnation and baby’s breath. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Over- cash, Jr. of Kings Mountain and Kenneth Branch of Gaff- ney, S.C. A 1984 graduate of Kings Mountain High School, she is employed at First Na- tional Bank of Shelby. The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Doytt Falls of Kings Mountain. He is a 1984 graduate of Kings Mountain High School and is employed by Bay-Liner Marine Corp. in Shelby, N.C. : After a wedding trip to Myrtle Beach, the couple are at home in Shelby. CAKE CUTTING Miss Kathy Branch and Jeff Falls were entertained on Friday night, after the wedding rehearsal at the groom’s home and hosted by the bride’s mother, Mrs. George Overcash. Members of the wedding party, relatives and friends were in- vited. The color note of blue and white of the wedding was car- ried out in decorations. The table was covered with blue, overlaid with white lace and caught up with streamers, . wedding bells and bows. A centerpiece was a large can- dle decorated with the cou- ple’s wedding invitation and blue flowers inside a glass dome, gift to the couple by the grooms sister. A separate round table in blue and white held the three tiered cake of white and blue flowers. Underneath the cake was a lighted water fountain. Cheese straws, ham biscuits, nuts, sausage balls, mints and punch were served. Mrs. Carolyn Robinson cut and served the cake and Mrs. Kevin Falls served punch. JANET MARIE BAGWELL ENGAGEMENT ANNOUNCED-Mr. and Mrs. Charles Bagwell of Kings Mountain announce the engagement of their daughter, Janet Marie, to Jimmy Dwayne Kennerly, son of Mrs. Wilma Ledford and Bill Kennerly, both of Bessemer Ci- ty. The bride-elect is a graduate of Kings Mountain Senior High School and N.C. State University and is employed by Crest Junior High. Mr. Kennerly is a graduate of North Mecklenburg High School and is employed by Kennerly Grading and Trucking. The wedding will take place June 30th in Capps Memorial Missionary Methodist Church in Cher- ryville where the bride-elect’s grandfather, Rev. H.S. Scruggs, will officiate at the ceremony. In Charity League's Ball Two Kings Mountain young women and a Kings Mountain granddaughter will be among the 112 young ladies of high school graduation age from 17 cities and towns to be presented to Western North Carolina Society at the 40th annual Shelby Junior Charity League Debutante Ball June 8th at Malcolm E. Brown School-Civic Auditorium in Shelby. Local debutantes are Robin Lee Warlick, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Warlick of Downing Street, and Julie Ann Yarbro, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John F'. Yarbro of Route 1, Shelby. Both young women are senior students at Kings Mountain Senior High School. Dana Lynn Yarbro, Shelby High School Senior, is daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Yarbro of Shelby and granddaughter of Jesse Yar- bro of Kings Mountain. Her Chief Marshal wil be her father. Her escort will be James Douglas Westmoreland. Co-chairmen of the 1985 Ball are Mrs. John Gardner and Mrs. Alan Roebuck. Secretary to the Debutantes is Mrs. Harold Plaster, Jr., assisted by Mrs. Sam B. Strain, Jr. and the League President is Mrs. Fred Mills. Their fathers will be chief marshals for the two Kings Mountain debs. Serving as escort for Miss Warlick will be Robert Ernest Appling. Serving as escort for Miss Yarbro will be Quinton Ray Rikard. DANA LYNN YARBRO Junior Charity League sponsored events will begin on Friday, June 7th, for all debutantes and their mothers with a registration brunch at the Cleveland Country Club on East Marion Street. The rehearsal for the Ball will be held at 3 p.m. that day in Malcolm Brown Auditorium after which an informal din- ner dance for debs and assis- tant marshals will be held at the Elks Club on East Marion Street in Shelby beginning at 7:30 p.m. A dinner dance for parents of the debs will be held at 7:30 p.m. that evening at Cleveland Country Club on East Marion Street. The New York Trio will be playing un- til 11:30. Fathers of debs are invited to play golf and tennis on Saturday, June 8th, at the Cleveland Country Club. A brunch for the debs and their assistant marshals will be - Conners Note Anniversary Mr. and Mrs. Ervin Conner celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary April 18th and on April 14th renewed their wed- ding vows in a 2 p.m. ceremony in Sunset Baptist Church in Bessemer City. Rev. Sam Robbins of- ficiated at the ceremony in the presence of 100 friends and relatives of the well known Kings Mountain cou- le. 2 Mrs. Conner is the former Ethel Cabe. After the ceremony, the honored couple cut a tiered blue and white anniversary cake and the cake was served with punch and party refreshments. Ethel and Ervin Conner were married April 18, 1925 in York, S.C. They reared two sons and two daughters. The children are Johnny Conner of Kings Mountain, Garnell Bryant and Betty Payne, both of Bessemer City, and the late Clyde Conner. There are 15 grandchildren and 15 grea-grandchildren. Mr. Con- ner owned and operated Con- ner’s Garage for many years prior to retirement and has been an automobile mechanic all his life. Mrs. Conner worked for 25 years at Margrace Mill. The couple reside on Cloninger Street. They are active in Zion Bap- tist Church of Gastonia. Mrs. Conner said both she and her husband married at an early age, she was 18 and he was 17. The children plan- ned the reception to honor their parents but Mrs. Conner said that she and Mr. Conner did not have a church wed- ding when they said their vows 60 years ago, they wanted to renew their vows and planned the ceremony in the church which their children attend regularly. Only two of their close friends attended the 1925 ceremony. Many friends witnessed the renewal of marriage vows. SUSAN MARTIN BEARD ENGAGEMENT ANNOUNCED—Mr. and Mrs. Charles R. Martin of Shelby announce the engagement of their daughter, Susan Martin Beard, to Robert Sommers Maner, son of Mr. and Mrs. B.F. Maner of Kings Mountain. The bride-elect is a graduate of Massey Junior College of Atlanta, Ga. and is employed in the Cleveland County Register of Deeds office in Shelby. The bridegroom-to-be is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and is associated with B.F. Maner Agency, Inc. of Kings Mountain. The wedding will take place June 30th in Shelby’s First Baptist Church. Local Women To Debut JULIE ANN YARBRO held at North Lake Club on North Washington Street in Shelby from 10:30 a.m. until noon on Saturday, June 8th. The sustaining members of the League will host a lun- cheon honoring the mothers of debs at the home of Mrs. Lyndon Hobbs, 1226 Brookwood Drive, Shelby, at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 8th. The 40th annual Debutante Presentation will begin promptly: at 8 p.m. Saturday evening, June 8th, in Brown Auditorium. The reception on the grounds will follow immediately after the presentation. The Shelby Junior Charity League Debutante Ball originated in 1946 when 31 young ladies from Western North Carolina (24 from Shelby) were presented to society. The gala events (dances, parties, dinners and other functions) are enhanc- ed by elegant decorations, elaborate menus and the best available music. This year 112 young ladies from 17 cities and towns of Western North Carolina will make their debuts clad in the tradi- tional long white gowns and gloves and carrying arm bou- quets of long stemmed red roses.
