East School Holds Graduation
Fifth Grade ‘‘Graduates’
received diplomas and a
large number of students won
awards during East School
Awards Day Friday.
Heading the list of award
winners were the Citizenship
winners Dannielle Nolen and
Holly Harmon.
A highlight of the program
was a ‘‘Vacation Special”
train composed of the staff
dressed in engineer caps and
jeans and wearing the
“wheels’’ on their shoes and
boxcars fastened to the
shoulders of their white
blouses. The wheels were
designed on paper plates
placed to the outside of the
ankle and attached with a str-
ing. Iva Beam, chairman,
fashioned the engine on card-
board and it was worn by
Margaret Smith. Other
members of the awards day
committee were Anne Quat-
tlebaum and Betty Clemmer.
Making up the ‘‘Vacation
Special’’ were Margaret
Smith, Pam Lee, Jackie
Shell, Anne Mauney, Debbie
Rayfield, Sandra Mullinax,
Betty Jordan, Gail Brown,
Mike Smith, Terrie Putnam,
Delora Lovelace and Anne
Smith.
‘East School Librarian,
Edith Morgan, who is retiring
this year, was also recogniz-
ed during the program with a
crown of flowers, a banner,
and gifts.
