Juniors Nip Cherryville, Bo FC Here Saturday Kings Mountain’s American Legion Juniors dropped a pair of games to Shelby — defeated Cher- ryville in Area IV action dur- ing the past week. Post 155, now 4-4 in league play and 5-4 overall, was scheduled to host Lenoir last night. KM will travel to Morganton Friday and host Forest City Saturday. KM goes to Newton Monday and Hickory Wednesday. The Juniors fell 2 Shelby 13-2 last Thursday in Shelby, edged Cherryville 5-3 Satur- day in Cherryville and lost to Shelby 10-7 Monday in Kings Mountain. Post 155 got three of its five hits, and both of its runs, in the third inning at Shelby. Thomas Breakfield singled and scored on a double by Jo D. Franklin and Franklin later scored on a single by Paul Neisler. Breakfield had two of KM’s five hits and Franklin, Neisler and Todd Fleming had one apiece. Jerry McDaniel came on in the seventh inning in relief of Tommy Batchler and picked up the win. Cherryville load- ed the bases in the bottom of the ninth but McDaniel came up with a big strikeout to end the game. Kings Mountain grabbed a 3-0 lead in the top of the first. Johnny Phillips and Dal Haynes had back-to-back singles with one away to start Turn To Page 7-A KM Four Defeats Belmont Kings Mountain Number Four defeated Belmont 13-3 Saturday night in a 14-15 year old Babe Ruth baseball game. The Kings Mountain team is scheduled to play at Mount Holly Saturday night. Toby Deaton hurled the vic- tory for the KM team. He recorded eight strikeouts. ‘Deaton, Dale Green, Monty Deaton and Kevin Bolin had two hits each to lead the KM plate attack. Chris Morris had a triple, Shawn Garris a double and Jeff Fowler, Brian Butler and Billy Ramsey singles. Jones To Teach Tennis Brad Jones, a three-year starter on the KMHS tennis team, will teach private ten- nis lessons beginning Monday at the KM Junior High courts. The lessons will be taught between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. and will cost $4 for one-half hour and $8 for an hour. For more information, call 739-7263. Booster To Host Tourney The Kings Mountain High Booster’s Club will sponsor a slowpitch softball tourna- ment June 28-29 at the Kings Mountain Junior High field. Class D and Church League teams are eligible to com- pete. There are openings for six men and six women’s teams. Entry fee is $65 and one softball. Sidney Bridges slammed a three-run homer in the top of the sixth inning to erase a 19-17 deficit and put BB&T on top to stay. BB&T has a three-game lead with two games to play. Bridges finished with five hits, including’three homers, and scored five runs to lead the BB&T attack. Jason Trammell and Shawn Gann had four hits and four runs each, Chad Adams had four hits and two runs and Jeremy Cook had two hits and two runs. Robert Wingo and Nathan Champion had three hits and three runs each and Sherree Hopper had three hits, in- cluding a home run, for the Cubs. The Cubs took a 19-16 lead by scoring eight runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. ‘In action last Thursday night, BB&T defeated Parkdale 23-2. Kevin Melton led the way with four hits and four runs, and Jason Tram- mell, Jeremy Cook, Sidney Bridges and Shawn Gann each had three hits. Sage Fulton had two hits for Parkdale. HEE The Jim Testa Braves won a pair of T-Ball games during the past week, defeating Pat- terson Oil 21-11 and Parkdale 35-5. ; Brian Lefevers and Brian Leftwich scored four runs each, Micahel Bell and Jeremy Oliver scored three each and Tommy Morrow scored twice to lead the vic- tory over Patterson Oil. Huntsinger and Bolin scored two runs each fo the losers. Against Parkdale, Left- wich slammed two home runs and scored five runs and Lefevers and Cameron Falls each had one home run and five runs. Jeremy Oliver scored five runs and Michael Bell and Allen Oliver scored four runs each.
