a DOCTOR CECIL CHAMPION Funeral services for Doc- ; tor Cecil Champion, 67, of Route 2, who died Monday at home, were conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m. from i David Baptist Church by fF Rev. Rick Wilson and Rev. Willie Arrowood, interment following in Mountain Rest Cemetery. : Mr. Champion was retired from Burlington Industries and was a member of David Baptist Church. He was a widower of Bertha Sanders Champion and was the son of the late George and Georgianna Champion. Surviving are one sister, Mrs. Lona Mae Williams of Kings Mountain. Masters Funeral Home was in charge of ar- rangements. RAYMOND L. SPEARMAN Funeral services for Ray- mond L. Spearman, 63, of Route 1, who died Saturday in Gaston Memorial Hospital, were conducted Monday afternoon at 4 p.m. from the Chapel of Harris Funeral Home, interment following in Oak View Cemetery. Mr. Spearman was a native of Cleveland County and was the son of the late John and Laura Rice Spearman and was retired from the Gaston County Rural Police. Survivors include his wife, Lorina Crawford Spearman; son, Jerry Spearman of Charlotte; daughter, Peggy Ammons of Lowell; three brothers, James Spearman of Seattle, Wash. and Earl and Glenn Spearman, both of Kings Mountain; two sisters, Ms. Kenneth Metcalf and Mrs. Robert Childers, both of Kings Mountain and two grandchildren. Rev. Robbie Moore of- ficiated at the rites. ; Harris Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. JOHN NORMAN Funeral services for John Thomas Norman, 45, of Route _ 2, Forest City, who died Wednesday at home, were conducted Saturday at 3 p.m. from Harriet Memorial Freewill Baptist Church in Forest City by the Rev. Ron- nie Robbins and the Rev. Mike Dalton, interment following in Providence United Methodist Church Cemetery. : A native of Newberry Coun- ty, he was employed as a con- struction worker. He was the son of the late David Lee and Eva Teseniar Norman. Surviving are his wife, Judy Laws Norman; two sons, Jerry Dean Norman of Chicago and John Wayne Norman of the home; two daughters, Phyllis and Loret- ta Sue Norman, both of the home; two brothers, Leroy Norman of Chicago and Earl Norman of Greenville, S.C., four sisters, Pearl Corder of Dallas; Ola Mae Cox of Kings Mountain, Lois Lavoy of Chicago and Doris Roscoe of Columbia, and four grand- children. DOUGLAS SELLERS Funeral services for Douglas Stephen Sellers, 32, of 912 Grover Road, who died Friday after an extended il- Iness in the Cleveland Memorial Hospital, were con- ducted Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m. from Maceonia Baptist Church by Rev. Jesse Bailey, interment following in Moun- tain Rest Cemetery. Mr. Sellers was employed by Homelite of Gastonia and was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church. Surviving are his mother, Ethel Erney Sellers of Kings Mountain; his father and stepmother, William and Vic- toria Sellers of Kings Moun- tain; a brother, Danny Eugene Sellers of Goldsboro; a sister, Sandy Sellers of Gastonia; two stepbrothers, Alfred Allison and Kenneth Burton of Kings Mountain, and a stepsister, Karen Sellers of Kings Mountain. Susan Asheworth. A native of Concord and formerly of Blacksburg, S.C., she was a retired licensed practical nurse at Kings Mountain Hospital and a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church in Blacksburg. She was the daughter of the late Brown Leroy Amick and Elizabeth Amick and wife of the late William Joseph Paul. Gordon’s Mortuary in Blacksburg, S.C. was in charge of arrangements. CALLIE SETZER Kings Mountain’s oldest citizen, Callie Watts Byers Setzer, 103, died Friday after- noon in the Kings Mountain Convalescent Center. Funeral services for ‘Mamma Calliee’’, as she was affectionately known, were conducted Monday afternoon from Vestibule AME Zion Church of which she was a member. Rev. Walter Adams and Rev. M.L. Campbell officiated at her rites and interment was in Mountain Rest Cemetery. Born Sept. 17, 1882 in Gaff- ney, S.C., she was the daughter of the late Ben- jamin and Louisa Watts. Her second marriage after the death of her first husband was to John Setzer and they reared one daughter. In Kings Mountain where she lived until her death, she was first a member of the Old Bynum’s Chapel AME Zion Church where she was a class leader and choir member for many years: Vestibule AME Zion Church was her last church home and she was a member of the choir, a class leader, president of the Mis- sionary Department and deaconess board. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Louise Dixon of Cherryville and John Ida Toms of the home; ‘three sons, Hood Byers of Washington, D.C., Charlie Byers of Winston-Salem, Floyd Byers of Cherryville and five generations of children and one sister, Liz- zie Anderson of Cherryville.
