A native of Union County, S.C., she was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Lewis McCluney and a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church. She is survived by three sons, William (J.T.) Floyd of Kings Mountain, were conducted Tuesday at 3 p.m. from St. Stephens AME Zion Church of Gastonia. Dr. Floyd was founder of the Gaston County Organiza- tion for Community Con- cerns, chairman of the Gastonia Housing Authority and precinct chairman in the Gaston County Democrat He was a ty Human Relations Board. A native of Gastonia, he ~ was a Captain in the U.S. = Navy and a member of St. © Stephens AME Zion Church where he served as the pastor’s steward for 30 years and was adult Sunday School teacher. He attended Hamp- ton Institute, Va. and receiv- ed a Doctor of Dental Surgery at Howard University, Washington, D.C. He was 1966 Gaston County Dentist of the Year, a member of the National Dental Association, the Gaston County Dental Society and the Gaston Coun- ty Board of Health. Also surviving are his father, William W. Floyd of Clover, S.C., his wife, Mary R. Floyd; a son, Dr. John W. Floyd of Boston, Mass., a sister, Helen A. Floyd of Clover, S.C., and three brothers, Rev. Mr. Dover was son of Mrs. Maybell Carroll Dover of Kings Mountain and the late James E. Dover. He was a veteran of service in Vietnam and was employed as a salesman. He was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church of Kings Mountain. Surviving, in addition to his mother, are his daughter, Angie Dover, of Franklin; two brothers, James Willis Dover of Blacksburg, S.C. and R.M. Dover of Kings. Mountain; and two sisters, Mrs. Phyllis Carrigan of Grover and Mrs. Allen Robey of Arlington, Va. MILES GRIGGS - Miles Elbert Griggs, 606 S. Mountain St., Cherryville, father of Jack and David Cor- ry of Kings Mountain, died Friday in Lincoln County Hospital. He was a former member of Washington Baptist Church of Waco. Also surviving are his wife, Mrs. Deloise Corry Griggs; four daughters, Myra and Shona Corry, Millette and Payton Griggs, all of Cher- ryville; four sons, Donald Corry of Shelby, Terry, Allen, and Tony Griggs, all of the home; his mother, Alline Borders Barnes of Cher- ryville; five sisters, Carolyn Hopper of Shelby, Willie Mae Patterson of Cherryville, Lolita Cline of Bessemer City and Curryline Merritte and Elizabeth Wilson, both of Hickory; four brothers, William Hugh Griggs of Hickory, Randy L. Griggs of Cherryville, Charley J. Griggs of Gastonia and Auston Griggs of Chesnee, S.C. and eight grandchildren. MRS. MINNIE GORDON Funeral services for Mrs. Minnie Pearl Gordon, 93, of Meadowbrook Manor, Shelby, who died Sunday, were conducted Tuesday morning at 11 a.m. from the Chapel of Harris Funeral Home by. Mrs. Gordon was a retired textile employee and a Kings Mountain native, daughter of the late Noah Jefferson and Sarah Hullender Huffstetler. She was the widow of John Robert Gordon. Surviving are five daughters, Mrs. Ethel Mae Calvert of Springfield, Mo., Mrs. Peggy Guin and Mrs. Virginia Hale, both of Charlotte, Mrs. Lucille Moore and Mrs. Ethel Cobb, both of Shelby; 13 grand- children, 42 great- grandchildren, and seven great-great grandchildren. RUTH CLONINGER Funeral services for Ruth Black Cloninger, 71, of 415 Fulton Dr., widow of James Walker Cloninger, were con- ducted Saturday at 2 p.m. from Central United Methodist Church of which she was a member. She was a native of Cleveland County, daughter of the late Harley and Annie Ware Black. Surviving are her son, James L. B.A. SMITH Mrs. Bessie Gantt Smith, 92, of 818 Church St., died Tuesday in the Kings Moun- tain Convalescent Center. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday after- noon at 3 p.m. from the Chapel of Harris Funeral Home by Rev. Eddie Black, interment following in Moun- tain Rest Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday night from 7 until 9 p.m. at Harris Funeral Home. A homemaker, Mrs. Smith was a Gaston County native, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Gantt. She was widow of Bennett Alexander Smith. Surviving are three sons, B.A. Smith, Jr. of Charlotte, Roy Smith of Baltimore, Md. and Bobby Smith of Kings Mountain; one daughter, Mrs. Bonnie King of Kings Mountain; five grand- children and two great- grandchildren.
