- Mary Dixon Howell, 75, Surprised On Her Birthday Mrs. Mary Dixon Howell was surprised on her 75th bir- thday with a covered dish luncheon at Temple Baptist Church hosted by members of her family. Eighty friends and relatives honored the well known Kings Mountain citizen on June 16th. : Mrs. Howell’s son, Arthur - Howell, of Iowa Park, Texas, and his family came home ~ especially for the occasion. It had been 17 years since the Texas Howells had been able to return for a family get-to- gether. Other children of Mrs. Cookout Honors Bridal Couples Laura Laine Herndon and William Dickey (Chip) McGill, who were married June 29th, and Katherine Anne McGill and Jonathan Elliott Taylor, who were also married June 29th, were honored at a cookout given by Elizabeth McGill at her home at 703 Hillside Drive. Katherine and Elizabeth were suitmates at Erskine College. Guests were greeted at the door by the hostess. An arrangement of magnolia blossoms in a brass pitcher graced the foyer. Elizabeth’s friends were served from a buffet in the family room, centered with Williamsburg hurricane chimneys decorated with sweetpeas and greenery. Guests dined by candlelight on the back porch and found their places at round tables overlaid ;with large yellow and white checked cloths trimmed with white rick rack. Williamsburg hur- ricane chimneys adorned with sweetpeas centered each table. The hostess took the occa- sion to present the honored guests wedding gifts in their chosen pattern. Cookout Honors Nancy Lee Miss Elizabeth McGill, her parents, Dr. and Mrs. John C. McGill and Mrs. Frances Sincox, entertained together Friday night at a cookout at the McGill home on Hillside Drive honoring Miss Nancy Lee, whose wedding to Michael Bryant takes place in August. Fifteen guests dined by candlelight at round tables set up on the porch of the McGill home and decorated with yellow and white check- ed cloths and centered with hurricane Williamsburg globes, sweetpeas and greenery. Queen Anne’s lace and sweetpeas decorated the buffet table in the family room. Hamburgers were served with all the trimmings. In lieu of a corsage, the ‘hosts presented Miss Lee with a brass pineapple key holder and also took the occa- sion to present the bride-elect with wedding crystal in her pattern. Miss Lee wore a hot pink sundress and white ac- cessories. Present as special guests were Dr. and Mrs. Joe Lee, parents of the bride-elect.
