Three Men Started TG&Y
TG&Y is a growth
chain... TG&Y is an
Oklahoma-based
chain... TG&Y is Tomlinson,
Gosselin and Young.
Sometime in 1932 R.E.
Tomlinson, E.L. Gosselin and
R.A. Young, each proprietors
of Oklahoma variety stores,
met while on a buying trip to
Oklahoma City. These men
later formed a partnership
that would be the beginning
of a merchandising giant.
In 1936 the three men open-
ed the first TG&Y store,
located in Norman, Okla.,
setting a precedent...growth.
In 1946 all the individually
owned variety stores were
combined into one company
and incorporated as TG&Y
Stores Co.
In 1950 the United States
was booming and so was
TG&Y. The company opened
the 132nd store and moved
Headquarters for the third
time to the present location
(3815 N. Santa Fe in
Oklahoma City.)
The new location contained
offices and a warehouse;
however, by 1961 the com-
pany had expanded so rapid-
ly that the Headquarters
Warehouse was converted to
more office space and a
branch warehouse opened.
Fourteen other warehouses
located throughout the coun-
try soon followed. The com-
pany operates 11 warehouses
and distribution centers cur-
rently.
TG&Y introduced its Fami-

POS System Will Assure
Customers Good
The local TG&Y on Shelby
Road has installed an
automated cashiering system
designed to provide faster
customer service. The pro-
ject, tagged POS (Point of
Sale), is scheduled for a July
11th implementation and will
assist management in having
ample stock in all merchan-
dise as it captures sales of in-
dividual items.
Store Manager Thomas
Quiram stated, ‘“‘By being
able to know the exact quan-
tities and items we sell each
day, we can be assured of a
good in-stock position on the
merchandise our customers
want. We are really excited
about the opportunity to
serve our customers better.’
Employees have been
trained on the new registers
through attending a seminar
at a designated regional
training store.
“With POS, we can achieve
greater
checkout,” said Dick, Scott,
headquarters store systems
coordinator. ‘‘POS provides
sales information for stores
to be in stock on merchandise
the customers need at the
time they need it. We will
have the advertised mer-
chandise and check out the ad
merchandise faster and more
accurately.”
The company indicated this
