Family Dollar Stores, Inc.,
a discount store chain
operating 911 stores in a 20
state area, ranging as far
north as Pennsylvania, south
to Florida and west to Texas,
today reported the highest
third quarter and fiscal nine-
month sales and earnings in
the Company’s twenty-six
year history. For the third
. quarter ended May 31, 1985,
~ sales were $102,857,099, or ap-
_ proximately 24% above sales
of $82,851,575 for the third
quarter of the prior fiscal
year. Net income was
$7,048,423, or approvimately
25% above net incume of
$5,637,740 for the comparable
quarter, and net income per
share, adjusted to reflect the
~ three-for-two stock split ef-
fective February 7, 1985, in-
~ creased to $.25 from $.20.
For the nine months ended
1985, sales were
ly 22% above sales of
$251,596,591 for the first nine
~~ months of the prior fiscal
year. Net income was
$21,156,215, or approximately
22% above net income of
$17,330,407 for the com-
parable nine-month period,
and net income per share, ad-
justed to reflect the three-for-
~ two stock ‘split effective
February 7, 1985, increased
to $.74 from $.61.
Leon Levine, Chairman of
the Company, noted that the
third quarter operating
results marked Family
Dollar’s 40th consecutive
quarter of record sales and
earnings on a comparable
basis. He attributed the sales
gains in the third quarter and
the nine months ended May
31, 1985, to sales in new stores
opened in the Company's con-
tinuing store expansion pro-
gram and to increased sales
in existing stores. Sales in
new stores included sales in
38 stores opened during the
third quarter, including the
first stores in New Jersey.
Delaware, Indiana and
Missouri, and 133 stores open-
ed during the nine months
ended May 31, 1985. At the
beginning of the first and
third quarters of the current
fiscal year, Family Dollar
was operating 765 and 860
stores, respectively, com-
pared to 635 and 713 stores in
operation at the beginning of
the first and third quarters of
the prior fiscal year. Sales in
existing stores increased ap-
proximately 4.5% in the third
quarter and approximately
3.5% in the nine months end-
ed May 31, 1985.
In commenting - on sales
subsequent to the end of the
third quarter, Lewis E.
Levine, President of the Com-
pany, stated that while total
sales increased in the month
of June 1985 as a result of the
continuing store expansion
program, sales in existing
stores were down from sales
in June 1984. Levine added
that preliminary sales results
for the first week in July this
year had shown an improve-
ment from the June sales
levels and sales in existing
stores in the first week of Ju-
ly were slightly higher than
in the first week of July 1984.
Family Dollar Stores, Inc..
currently operates 911 dis-
count stores located in North

Next, there was the com-

perform,” is how Leighton
Ford describes the attitudes
of many churches. Jesus
never intended for His mar-
ching orders to reach only the
few, it was a commission to
every born again believer.
The same blood that signed
our pardon at Calvary, signs
our commission in the upper-
room of dedication.
But, one thing remained.
(V. 22) “He breathed on
them, and saith unto them,
receive ye the Holy Ghost.”
One may have peace with
God, be crucified with Christ
and be aware of his personal
commission, and yet not be
ready to—PASS IT ON! !
The disciples had walked
with Jesus for three years,
sat at His feet to hear His
teachings, were witnesses of
His resurrection, and yet,
they were behind closed
doors for fear. Something
was lacking, it was the power
of God!!
Today we emphasize many
things, education, training,
ability, personality, ap-
pearance and often times
forget the great essential, the
infilling of the Holy Spirit.
But before we can pass it on,
we must be filled with the Ho-
ly Spirit. Here is what we
need today, a fresh ex-
perience with the risen
Lord—it is only when we go in
His power that we can
truly—PASS IT ON!!!
