Discover the ultimate in naturalness . . . BESET “From This Day Forward”, an outdoor drama about the Waldensians of Valdese, was attended by two groups from First Presbyterian Church and Dixon Presbyterian Church last week. The Dixon group also toured the Waldensian Museum and had supper in Valdese. The Museum is housed in the old Presbyterian church and the history of the Waldensian Presbyterian Church, now a membership of 580, is intert- wined with the history of the town and the drama. One ex- ample of this is the fact that when it was apparent that the community could not survive based economically on agriculture, the church loan- ed money to help start in- dustry. In education and in- dustry, as well as in the religious life of the communi- ty, the church served and serves today as the center of Waldensian life in Valdese. Many customs brought from Italy were retained in the church until 1921, when changes were begun. Some of those changes: the offering was to be collected in the pews during the service in- stead of at the door as the congregation departed; the sacrament of the Lord’s su per would be observed while the congregation remained seated in the pews, being waited on by elders; men and women would no longer sit on opposite sides of the church; Until 1922 the services were conducted in French.
