Parties, Showers Honor
Amy Elmore, Mr. Crawford
Amy Elmore, who was
married Saturday to Steve
Crawford, was honored at
several events prior to the
wedding. ;
Mrs. George Winecoff,
Joanna Winecoff, Mrs. Scott
Key and Kathryn Key hosted
a kitchen shower at the
Winecoff home on Aug. 15th,
~ where Amy received many
useful gifts. Guests included
Mrs. W.G. Elmore, Jr.,
mother of the bride, and Mrs.
James C. Crawford, Sr.,
mother of the bridegroom.
On Aug. 17th Mr. and Mrs.
Ken Jenkins and Dr. and
Mrs. R.E. Quinn were hosts
at a pool side dinner at the
Quinn home on Jackson Road
in Gastonia. Tables held ar-
rangements of mixed garden
flowers in pastel colors.
Guests included the wedding
party, the bride’s parents Mr.
and Mrs. W.G. Elmore, Jr.,
grandparents of the bride Mr.
and Mrs. W.G. Elmore, Jr.,
the groom’s parents, Mr. and
Mrs. James C. Crawford, Sr.,
of Kings Mountain, Mr. and
Mrs. Calvin Crawford, Mr.
and Mrs. Bobby Phillips and
Mr. and Mrs. Mike Cobb. The
hosts presented their wed-
ding gift to the bridal couple
at this time. :

on, Mr. and Mrs. Fred L. Dix-
on, Mr. and Mrs. Charles
Ballard and Mayor and Mrs.
John Moss entertained at a
lovely barbecue dinner on
Aug. 25th at the home of Mr.
and Mrs. Fred L. Dixon,
Gaston Street, Kings Moun-
tain. The entrance was
beautifully decorated in the
wedding colors of royal blue,
shades of green and medium
blue thistles. The guests were
seated at tables decorated
with matching colors of
garden flowers.
The hostess chose this time
to present their wedding gift
of Jefferson Pewter cups to
the bridal couple. Jeff and
Sharon Putnam entertained
the guests with a lovely song
fest. :
On Sept. 17th Amy was
Honored with a" lingerie
shower given by Mrs. Scott
Elm re, Mrs.
Elmore and Mrs. Bill Teague
at the Scott Elmore home on
Rivermont Drive, Gastonia.
The brides corsage was a
red rose surrounded by gyp-
sophilia.
Mrs. Raymond Talbert,
Mrs. Billy Talbert and Miss
Jane Talbert hosted a tea on
Sunday afternoon, Sept. 15th,
at Miss Talbert’s home on
Suzanne Street, Kings Moun-

The bridesmaids luncheon
was given at the Gaston
Country Club by Mrs. Ann
Holfeld, Miss Barbara
Holfeld and Mrs. Doris Keller
on Friday, Sept. 19th. The
club was beautifully
decorated with gerber
daisies, miniature carna-
tions, alstrameria lilies and
mixed foliage in the bridal
colors. Amy’s corsage was
made of matching lilies.
The bride-elect chose this
time to present gifts to her at-
tendants. Special guest were
Mrs. James Crawford, Sr.,
mother of the groom and
Mrs. W.G. Elmore, Jr.,
mother of the bride, Mrs.
W.G. Elmore, Sr., grand-
mother of the bride, Mrs. Lin-
da Elmore and Mrs. Phyllis
Dilling, aunts of the bride.
The groom’s parents enter-
‘tained at a rehearsal dinner
at the Kings Mountain Holi-
day Inn. :
Tables were decorated with
burgandy, pink and
cranberry silk arrangements
centered with a cranberry
candle.
The bride-elect wore a
gardenia with pink
sweetheart roses and the
groom’s boutonniere was a
gardenia. :
The Wedding Breakfast
was given by Amy’s grand-
father, Marshall Dilling, Sr.,
her uncle, Marshall Dilling,
Jr., and, aunt, Mrs. Michael
Conrad at the Gastonia City
Club.
The tables were covered
with mauve pink cloths and
held arrangements of gerber
daisies, orchid daisies and
cork screw willow in egg
planters. ;
Mr. Dilling gave a beautiful
toast to the bridal couple and
the hosts and hostess
resented them with a silver

Depot Center Setting For
Kings Mountain Depot
Center was the setting Satur-
day for the 4 p.m. wedding
uniting Pat Shirkey and
James A. Childers.
The Rev. Russell Fitts,
former pastor of Bethlehem
Baptist Church, officiated at
the double-ring ceremony in
the presence of the two
families and friends.
Mrs. Norma King Pettus
was pianist for the program
of nuptial music and vocal
selections were by Mrs.
James N. Childers, daughter-
in-law of the bridegroom.
Vocal numbers included
“To Me” and ‘‘You Needed
Me.”
Present as a special guest
at the wedding was Mrs. J.W.
Skinner of Gaffney, S.C.,
grandmother of the
ridegroom.
The bride and bridegroom
came to the altar together.

‘honor of his birthday which
was on his daughter’s wed-

parents of the bride, a 1979
graduate of Kings Mountain
Senior High School and a 1984
graduate of UNC School of
Pharmacy where she receiv-
ed her B.S. in Pharmacy. She

bride’s daughters, Teresa
Shirkey and Emily Shirkey.
Kenny McAbee, son-in-law of
the bridegroom, served as

The bride wore an antique
rose colored street-length
dress with matching hat and
carried a white Bible topped
with white flowers.
Bridal attendants chose
street-length dresses in
burgundy and pink and car-
ried baskets of summer
flowers. ;
Amy Edmondson presided
at the guest register.
The antique rose theme of
the wedding was beautifully
carried out in decorative
details and in refreshments.
The couple spoke their vows
before the fireplace on the
lower level of the Depot
Center and the reception was
held in the dining area where
the rose-colored wedding
cake was cut and served with
punch and party
refreshments.
Saturday Ceremony
Mrs. Childers is the
daughter of the late Mr. and
Mrs. Ernest H. Scoggins Sr.
of York, S.C. She is employed
as a secretary by Childers
Roofing Company.
Mr. and Mrs. W.A. Childers
of Kings Mountain are
parents of the bridegroom
who owns and operates
Childers Roofing of which he
is president. Mr. Childers is a
former two-term city com-
missioner. :
The newlyweds are at
home on Southwood Drive in
Kings Mountain.
