OBITURRIES ARTIE MAE GOFORTH Funeral services for Mrs. Artie Mae Goforth, 77, of 1317 Shelby Road, who died at home Saturday, were con- ducted Tuesday afternoon at 3 p.m. from the Chapel of Masters Funeral Home by Rev. William Tyson and Rev. James Gable, interment following in Gastonia’s Hollywood Cemetery. Mrs. Goforth was the daughter of the late George and Martha Blackwell and widow of Timmons C. Goforth. She was a member of Boyce Memorial ARP Church. Surviving are her step- mother, Mrs. Beulah Wade of Chester, S.C., a brother, Clyde Blackwell of Kings Mountain; a sister, Mrs. Floyd O. Mrs. Hicks, a native of Cleveland County, had resid- ed in Buncombe County since 1965. She was daughter of the late Newman Mackowee Ware and Mary Sue Huff- stetler Ware and was a member of West Asheville Baptist Church. Her hus- band, Joseph Grayson Hicks, died in 1978. Surviving are eight daughters, Nina Parks of Morganton; Verna Pressley of Blacksburg, S.C., Lillian Dwyer of Black Mountain, Margretta Blanton of Shey, Mary Ruth Allison of Old Fort, Melba Hemmings of Winston Salem, Rebecca Jo Stewart of Kings Mountain and Shirley Adams of Spar- tanburg, S.C., four sons, Herbert E. Hicks of Black Mountain, Robert S. Hicks of Des Moins, Iowa, Jack B. Hicks of Wauwatoso, Wiscon- sin, and Charles L. Hicks of Palmsdale, California; two brothers, Grady Ware of Gastonia and Lemuel Ware of Kings Mountain; 38 grand- children and 40 great- grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the John G. Love, 82, of Route 2, Blacksburg, S.C., who died Wednesday at home, were conducted Friday at 3 p.m. from Antioch Baptist Church by the Rev. Vernon Craig, in- terment following in the church cemetery. Mr. Love was a retired farmer, a native of Cherokee County and attended Antioch Baptist Church. He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Roland Love. Surviving are his wife, Macie Bolin Love; a son, Bill Love of Blacksburg, S.C., and a daughter, Atta Dixon of Gaffney, S.C., two brothers, Furman Love of Grover and Marvin Love of Blacksburg; a sister, Eunice Norman of Grover; four grandchildren and a great-grandchild. Gordon Mortuary was in charge of arrangements. Kay Smith To Give Contest Kay DeKalb Smith will be in concert this Sunday at First Baptist Church of Kings Mountain. During the 11 a.m. morning worship service she will bring several musical selections. Even though she is a young wife and mother of one child, she and her family stay busy on a na- tional scale presenting the gospel message through dramatic, comedic, and in- spirational form. “First Baptist Church of Kings Mountain invites the community to come and be blest by this gifted young lady,” said Dr. Joel Jenkins, pastor. : Joint Service By Methodists The Kings Mountain Charge, which is composed of Galilee and St. Paul United Methodist Churches, will be sharing together a joint ser- vice during the morning wor- ship hour at 11 a.m. this Sun- day. The service will be held at St. Paul, which is located on Cansler Street, The T.A. Powell Choir from Galilee and the Senior Choir from St. Paul will be pro- viding the music. Each member has been asked to bring a covered dish. Dinner will be served outside after the benediction, depen- ding on the weather. On the following Sunday, which will be World Commu- nion Sunday, the Charge Ser- vice will be held at Galilee with choirs from both chur- ches providing the music dur- ing the 11 a.m. worship hour. HARRELSON REUNION Descendents of William Harrelson and two wives, Sarah Salome Buff and Nan- cy Telitha Cumi Moody Stroupe, will have a family reunion on October 6, 1985, 1 p.m., at Bethlehem United Methodist Church on Highway 182 about seven miles northwest of Cher- ryville. A covered dish dinner will be enjoyed in the fellowship hall. ORDAINED DeWayne Caldwell and Ray Herndon were ordained as Deacons at Bethlehem Baptist Church at the Sunday morning worship services. yne Mays, Dwan Thornburg, Dewey Grigg and Kenny Vandals Damage Cars Vandals poured motor oil into the back seat and used sharp instruments to punch holes in the back seat of a car belonging to Dr. Laurence Muench, 310 Downing Drive, and damaged the car about $100, Kings Mountain Police said this week. Police are continuing their investigation of several reports of vandalism and break-ins, according to Mar- ty Blanton, secretary to D Chief J.D. Barrett. James Hollis, Houston, Texas, reported that an assortment of items was stolen from his car while parked at Holiday Inn last week. Property loss was estimated at $150. Gordon Hershberger, of Marietta, Ga., also reported to police that his car was ran- sacked while parked at Holi- day Inn and $700 worth of clothing removed. . Vandals ripped parts off a piece of heavy equipment parked in the 500 block of Ridge Street and buried the items. City workers, epor- ting to work, traced the foot- rints of the vandals and ound the buried parts. The uipment was owned by the City of Kings Mountain. James Gregory, Crawford Trailer Park, reported to KMPD that someone damag- ed his car with a grocery cart while he was parked at Har- ris Teeter. Damages were estimated at $50. Bessie Hamrick, 110 Blan- ton St., reported that her house was broken into and jewelry stolen amounting to’ $1100. Willis Dennis Huffstetler, Thornburg Drive, reported that a window was broken out of his house and damages amounted to $15. Alexander Hunsacker, of Winn Dixie, reported that a VCR was rented to a man who failed to return it. He estimated the loss at $410. Becky Patterson, 206 Juniper St., reported that nothing was taken during a break-in attempt at her house. Jackie Anderson, 2001 Red- wood Circle, reported that the window in her carport was broken out and damaged $40. Linda Smarr, Apt. 28 Land- mark, reported that windows were borken out and damages estimated at $50. Helen Biddix, of Shelby, reported to KMPD that a ocketbook was removed rom her vehicle while it was parked at 812 Grace Street. John David Faucett, 704 Marion St., reported that firearms valued at $400 were removed from his vehicle parked at Holiday Inn. Ann Chen, 405 Garrison Dr., reported a lost tag. The number is ASC 1998.
