Pee Wees
Won 26-19
Saturday
BY: DALE PUTNAM
The Kings Mountain Junior
Pee Wees won 26-19 over the
Dallas Orangemen Saturday
morning at North Gaston
High School Stadium.
The Little Mounties scored
first on a 35 yard touchdown
run by Sherman Witcher but
the Mountaineer defense was
unable to stop Dallas as the
Orangemen stomped down
the field to score on a 30 yard
run.
The Little Mounties
weren't about to let up as
they fought a Jong 60 yard
drive to allow Robby Ruff to
score a touchdown on a one
yard bust through Dallas’
defensive line. Shelton
Thompson added the extra
point to top the Mountie scor-
ing drive.
Ruff stripped the ball from
an Orangeman on the ensuing
kickoff and scampered 40
yards to score. Dallas
regrouped after these set-
backs to score a touchdown
but again the Little Mounties
answered their points on a 20
yard halfback pass from
Thompson to Witcher and the
extra point scored by Ruff.
Dallas scored another
touchdown but were unable to
take the lead as Kings Moun-
tain used the clock to their
advantage and held out to win
the game.
Shelton Thompson gained
76 yards in 11 carries, 1 extra
point and 1 reception. Robby
Ruff gained 90 yards in 18
carries, scored two
touchdowns and two extra.
points and recovered 1 fum-
le. Sherman Witcher gained
64 yards in 4 carries, 2
touchdowns and 1 reception.
Coach Pete Ruff, offense
coordinator, and Gerald Car-
rigan, line coach, agreed that
the running backs and line
~ are beginning to jell together.
Defensive coordinator and
head coach Dale Putnam, Sr.
stated that the Junior Pee
Wees will be ready for the
PAL One this Saturday at 9
a.m. at East Gaston High
School Stadium.
Elephants
Perform
At Fair
The Cristiani Elephants
will join the Josip Marcan
Lions and Tigers show at the
Cleveland County Fair,
September 27 through Oc-
tober 5, 1985. They will per-
form each night of the fair at

Karen and Peter Cristiani,
and their 11 year old son
Brian, arrived in Shelby to-
day with four enormous
elephants that will perform
at the Cleveland County Fair.
“My father brought them
over from India before I was
born,” recalls Karen, whose
family has been circus people
for seven generations.
Their names are Emma,
Babe, Shirley and Carey, and
they weigh in at four tons
apiece.
Asked how he felt about
marrying into a family com-
plete with four elephants,
Karen’s husband Peter,
replied that he treated the
elephants as if they were his
"children.
¢ Although Peter grew up in
the circus too, and in his time
has been a human cannon-
ball, a trampolinist and a
high-diver, he described his
work with the elephants as
his favorite because of the
‘outstanding relationship
you can have with them.”
