Mr. and Mrs. David Stanley Scruggs, who were wed Saturday, are on a wed- ding trip to Bermuda and afterwards will be at home at 1050 21st Avenue NW, Apart- ment 38, Hickory. Miss Phyllis Lynn Etters became Mr. Scruggs’ bride in a 7 p.m. candlelight wedding in Bethlehem Baptist Church. Rev. Sam Murphy, former pastor of the bride and now pastor of First Baptist Church of Bessemer City, of- ficiated at the impressive double ring ceremony ‘which featured the lighting of the “Unity Candle’’ as Mrs. Ann Bumgardner and Rusty Mor- rison sang the duet, “To Me.” Mrs. Frances Lail was pianist for the program of nuptial music and vocal selections were by Rusty Morrison and Mrs. Ann Bumgardner. Mrs. Bumgard- ner sang ‘God, A Woman and A Man” and Mr. Morrison sang ‘The Wedding Prayer” as the benediction. The altar of the church was banked with ferns and palms and enhanced by brass spiral candelabra holding spiral tapers interspersed with brass arch candelabrum bet- ween the two spirals. Hur- ricane lamps in the windows held candles and were decorated with pink bows. Glenn E. Etters escorted his daughter to the altar and gave her in marriage. The bride’s wedding gown was a formal design of white satin featuring a fitted bodice embellished: with appliqued Alencon lace, seed pearls and crystal beading. A sheer marquisette yoke and seed pearls and crystal beading. From the wasp waist flowed the satin skirt over crisp taffeta cascading into a voluminous cathedral sweep train and edged in matching Alencon lace. Her matching hat of Alencon lace and seed pearls featured silk flowers with pearl staminas and held her fingertip illusion veil of French marquisette. She car- ried a’ bouquet of white gardenias, tiger lilies, baby’s breath, and pink rosebuds and ivy. Miss’ Sallee Durham of Kings Mountain, college roommate of the bride, was maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Miss Ellen Fairfax of Charlotte, cousin of the bride; Miss Laura Fairfax of Charlotte, cousin of the bride; Mrs. Tiera Lewis. of Chester, S.C., cousin of the bridegroom; Mrs. Kathy Petrizzi and Mrs. Ka Taylor, both of Carrboro, col- lege classmates ©. hride. All the attendants wore long formals of lavender open necklines, gathered sleeves and tie belts. They wore strands of pearls, glits of the bride, and carried brandy snifters holding lighted candles and” surrounded by silk flowers of pink, lavender, and deep pur- ple ribbons attached. The flower girl wore a long pink dress with hoop skirt and lavender sash. She car- ried a white lace umbrella decorated with pink and lavender silk flowers and scattered petals of pink, lavender and white. The bride’s mother wore a long mauve formal with long sleeves and V-neckline and a corsage of candlelight or- chids. : The bridegroom’s mother chose a burgundy formal with cap sleves and tie belt and a corsage of candlelight orchids. The bride’s grandmother, Mrs. Rufus Etters, chose a petal blue formal and a cor- sage of white gardenias. Groomsmen were Todd Blalock of Kings Mountain, K.G. Etters of Kings Moun- tain, brother of the bride, Brad Jones of Chapel Hill, Mark Scruggs of Boone, brother of the bridegroom, and Joe Watkins of Har- risburg. Miss Kim Herndon, cousin of the bride, presided at the register. Caja Ormand, cousin of the bride, of Kings Mountain, distributed pro- grams. Mrs. Libby Herndon directed the wedding. The bride’s parents enter- tained after the ceremony at a beautifully appointed reception in the church chapel where the wedding colors were featured in decorative details. The lace covered tables were enhanc- ed by pink bows and were ar- ranged with centerpieces of pink and lavender flowers. Lead crystal candleholders held pink tapers and silver trays held an assortment of nuts, chicken salad puffs, wedding bell mints, cheese daisies and melon balls. Punch was served from a silver punch bowl. The bride’s table held the bride’s cake, a multi-tiered cake featuring a stairway ex- tending to smaller side cakes and holding miniature atten- dants. (Jennifer Susan Blanton) Garden Ceremony Unites Sm iths Jennifer Susan Blanton and DeVere Rogers Smith, Jr. were united in marriage at 5:30 P.M. on September 14, in a garden setting at the home of . the bride’s parents in Clarksburg, Ohio. A vitlin soloist played selections by Mozart and Beethoven before. the wedding. Howard Blanton escorted his daughter into the garden through a white archway decorated with Boston and Springuri Ferns tied with pink ribbons. They proceeded to a white gazebo where the father gave his daughter in marriage. The couple then plédged their vows in a double-ring ceremony before the Reverend Franklin Moore. The bride wore a Designer Tea length gown of ivory silk, with long sleeves, a tight fit- ted bodice, boat neck, and a slightly full skirt of imported ivory lace. The back of the dress was cut in a low V to the waist. She wore a matching hat of ivory silk and lace with French veiling. The bride carried a large arm bouquet of silk ivory Calla lilies and greenery tied with ivory lace. Mrs. Carolyn Minney of Chillocothe, Ohio was matron of honor. She wore a tea length rose silk dress with long sleeves and carried a bouquet of muted ivory and rose Calla lilies. Keith Minney of Chillicothe, Ohio was best man. : The bride’s mother wore a pink silk dress. The mother of the groom wore an ivory and taupe dress of silk. The groom presented each mother a long stemmed pink rose at the beginning of the ceremony. The bride’s parents enter- tained after the ceremony at a beautifully appointed out- door reception with a full sit- down dinner in the garden of their home. The buffet table was covered in ivory moire and festooned with garlands of greenery and fresh flowers. The wedding cake was decorated with fresh gladiolus, Alstroemeria and sweetheart roses. These same flowers were also around the base of the cake and tied with ribbons on the cake knife. Out of town guest included: Mr. and Mrs. Denny Sorrell of Columbus, Ohio, Mrs. Ronald E. Rogers and son, Steven G. Rogers, and James L. Rogers of Salisbury, N.C., John A. McCoig, Sr., of Kings Mountain, as well as the parents of the groom. Local Women Attend Meeting Of Auxiliary Two members of Otis D. Green Unit 155 American Legion Auxiliary attended the recent Region 3 Con- ference in Louisville, Ky. Representing the local unit were State Vice President Arlene Barrett and Past State President Lib Stewart. Mrs. Cheryl Butler, daughter of Mrs. Barrett, ac- companied the two to Louisville and . spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Fred Schneider in Corydon, Indiana and Mr. and Mrs. Bob Schneider. STEVEN FOY CRAWFORD (Amy Elmore) Crawfords Wed On Saturday Gastonia’s First United Methodist Church was the setting Saturday for the 6 p.m. wedding uniting Miss Amy Katherine Elmore and Steven Foy Crawford. The couple exchanged vows at the impressive -doublesring ceremony before the Rev. Fred Falls in a candlelight setting against a very traditional and formal altar arrangement of pink snapdragons, mauve pink gerber daisies, yellow en- chantment lilies with ivy and springeri cascading over the altar. The reserved pews were marked with candlelight ribbon and magnolia foliage. Elizabeth Adles Miller was organist for the program of wedding music and Molly Elizabeth Elmore was vocal soloist. Miss Elmore, sister of the bridegroom, sang ‘Wedding Song” and the benedictional “The Lord’s Prayer” follow- ed by “Irish Blessing.” The congregation joined in sing- ing, “For The Beauty of the Earth.” The bride was escorted to the altar and given in mar- riage by her father. Her for- mal gown of Ivory satin was designed by Priscilla of Boston and featured a scoop neckline with satin bows on the shoulders, full balloon sleeves and fitted bodice enhanced by a drop waist. Tiny covered buttons down the back of the dress and a full skirt with wide border that flowed into a Chapel train were highlights of the gown. Her veil of Ivory silk il- lusion was attached to a Camelot cap of Ivory satin and Alencon lace with rolled- edge hem and a Chapel-plus length train. She carried a cascade of gardenias, stephanotis, and softly tex- tured carnations in matching candlelight shades accented with deep colored ivy. Miss Molly Elizabeth Elmore of Gastonia was her sister’s maid of honor and bridesmaids were Miss Gaye Dilling Elmore and Miss Emily Anne Elmore, both of Gastonia, the bride’s sisters; Miss Jayne Marie Lybrand of Kings Mountain and Mrs. Jef- frey Alan Snyder of Winter Haven, Fla. All the attendants wore floor length gowns of royal blue moire taffeta designed and made by the bride's grandmother, Mrs. Jack Elmore, of Gastonia. The dresses were styled with scoop necklines, drop waists, fitted bodices and full, balloon sleeves. They carried uniquely fashioned crescent bouquets of gerber daisies, miniature carnations, Alstroemeria, Star of Bethlehem, and ivy in a har- ‘monious blend of pink, white, cranberry and lavender. Best man for the bridegroom was his father, James C. Crawford Sr. of Kings Mountain. Acolyte was Peter Glenn Conrad of Gastonia, cousin of the bride. Groomsmen were James Michael Conrad of Gastonia, cousin of the bride; Michael Craig Cornwell, James Calvin Crawford Jr., brother of the bride, James Pritchard Fulton, Kenneth Buren Horne, all of Kings Mountain, and Guy Franklin Melton of Gastonia. The serving tables held silver candelabra with elegant ar- rangements in shades of pink, lavender and white gerbera, Alstroemeria and miniature carnations. with chocolate icing and was also surrounded with Southern Smilax. Mr. and Mrs. William Glenn Elmore Jr. of Gastonia are parents of the bride who is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. William G. Elmore Sr. and Marshall Dilling Jr. She was presented at the 1981 Gastonia Debutante Ball and graduated with honors from Hunter Huss High School.
