JAMES CARTER Funeral services for James Phillip Carter, 35, of 274 Mobile Home Trailer Park, Bessemer City, who died Saturday, were conducted Monday afternoon at 4 p.m. from the Chapel of Masters Funeral Home by Rev. Lou Stinnett, interment following in Mountain Rest Cemetery. The Kings Mountain native was the son of the late Leman Sexton Carter and Virgie Carroll Carter of Bessemer City, who survives, and was employed by Ticaro Mills in Bessemer City. Carter died early Saturday morning while undergoing emergency treatment at Gaston Memorial Hospital from injuries suffered in a fire that destroyed the trailer in which he was sleeping. The cause of Carter’s death was listed as smoke - inhalation. Firefighters determined the mobile home had been burn- ing about an hour when they received the call just before 4 a.m. Saturday. Upon enter- ing the structure, firemen found the victim unconscious on the kitchen floor. Surviving, in addition to his mother, are five brothers, Johnny Carter, Eddie Carter, and Rodney Carter, Jr., all of Bessemer City, Rodney Dean Carter of Kings Mountain and Timothy Ray Carter of Gastonia; and two sisters, Marline Carter of Bessemer City and Diane Barker of Gastonia. JOE GILLIARD, JR. Funeral services for Joe Gilliard, Jr., 78, of Route 2, Cherryville, who died Satur- day in a Gastonia nursing home, were conducted at 4 p.m. Wednesday from Ebenezer Baptist Church in Kings Mountain by Rev. D.C. Wilson, interment following in the church cemetery. Mr. Gilliard is survived by his wife, Beatrice Barnes Gilliard; three sons, Joe Lewis Gilliard and Jon rare Kings Mountain, Mary Sanders of Gastonia and Mae Gilliard of Charlotte; a sister, Gertrude Wallace of Charlotte; 19 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
