TE Paula Hildebrand Wins Health Education Award Paula Hudson Hildebrand, ‘Health Education Coor- dinator for Kings Moun- tain/Shelby City Schools, was presented the Edgar W. Hooks, Jr. Young Profes- sional Award at the opening - session of the North Carolina Alliance of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance Convention Nov. 14th. The second annual award recognizes young members of North Carolina Alliance who have demonstrated outstanding potential for teaching, scholarly produc- tivity and professional ser- vice. Mrs. Hildebrand, 33, received her B.S. in health education in 1974 from UNC- Greensboro and her MHDL in health education and cur- riculum supervision in 1981 from UNC-Charlotte. She took additional training at Gardner Webb College and Rutgers University. She graduated from Wakelon High School in 1970. A member of NCAAHE since 1978, she is serving as state president 1985. She served on the health educa- tion leadership conference PAULA HILDEBRAND steering committee for two years and as conference chairperson in 1984. She received the Life Center Educator Appreciation Award from Discovery Place in 1984, the Distinguished Ser- vice Award for Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools in 1984, the Sheperd Alumni Award from UNC-G in 1985 and now serves on the Friends of Sheperd governing commit- tee for three years. She is author of ‘A Teacher’s Guide To Love Talk”, WTVI 42, Charlotte, 1983, and has won numberous awards for outstanding teaching in health administration. Jack Hunt On Committee Representative John J. (Jack) Hunt of Cleveland County has been designated by House Speaker Liston B. Ramsey as a member of the North Carolina Commission on the Bicentennial of the United States Constitution. Legislation creating the commission gave the Speaker of the House the op- tion of serving or designating another person to serve in his stead. Speaker Ramsey selected Representative Hunt as his designee. Hunt, a Lattimore dentist, is Speaker Pro Tem of the House. He represents Cleveland, Polk and Ruther- ford counties in the 48th House District. The commission will pro- mote and coordinate North Carolina’s part in activities commemorating the 200th an- niversary of the adoption of the United States Constitu- tion. The Constitution will be. +200 years old -on- September” 17, 1987. Festival Of Lights Set At Gardner-Webb Gardner-Webb College will hold a Festival of Lights Christmas celebration for the community and college fami- ly at the Boiling Springs cam- pus, Thursday, December 5. Gash Completes Training Marine Pvt. Jonathan D. Gash, son of Otis and Doris J. Giles of 1505 North Woods Drive, Kings Mountain, N.C., has completed recruit train. ing at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C. During the 11 week’ training cycle, Gash was taught the basics of battlefield survival. He was introduced to the typical daily routine that he will experience during his bt and studied the personal and professional standards traditionally ex- hibited by Marines. He participated in an ac- tive physical conditioning program and gained profi- ciency in a variety of military skills, including first aid, rifle markmanship and close order drill. Teamwork and self-discipline were em- phasized throughout the training cycle. A 1985 graduate of Bessemer City High School, Bessemer City, he joined the Marine Corps in August, 1985.
