LIGHTAL WELLS Funeral services for Mrs. Lightal Herndon Wells, 87, wife of Hunter Wells of Timms Circle, were con- ducted Sunday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. from Bethlehem Baptist Church of which she was a member. Rev. Ed Sessom, assisted by Rev. Sam Murphy, of- ficiated at the rites and inter- ment was in Bethlehem cemetery. Mrs. Wells died Friday morning at 9:40 a.m. at Kings Mountain Convalescent Center after illness of several years. She was a native of Cleveland County, daughter of the late John Maxie and Nora Blalock Herndon and had been married to Hunter Wells for 70 years. Surviving, in addition to her husband, are their two sons, Jack Wells of Kings Mountain and Lee Mack Wells of Shelby; two daughters, Mrs. Margaret Wise and Mrs. Betty Falls, both of Kings Mountain; and three brothers, Bratton Hern- don of Greensboro, Fred Herndon and Henderson Hernson, both of Kings Moun- P tain; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and three great-great grand- children. The family has requested memorials to the Arthritis Foundation. H.F. BAUMGARDNER Funeral services for Haskel Familiar Baumgard- ner, 71, of Route 4, who died Dec. 3 in the Kings Mountain: Hospital after six month’s il- Iness, were conducted Wednesday afternoon, Dec. 4, at 2 p.m. from Piedmont Bap- tist Church, of which he was a member. © Rev. Kenneth George, Rev. Timothy Spencer and Rev. Johnny Costner officiated at the rites and, interment was in Mountain Rest Cemetery. Mr. Baumgardner, a lifel- ing resident of Kings Moun- tain, was son of the late Charles Henderson and Alice Gantt Baumgardner. He was employed by the City of Kings Mountain in the Sup- port Personnel Program of Aged at KM Depot Center. He was married to Lillie Tinker Baumgardner, who survives. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are his son and daughter-in-law, C. Ross and Mona Baumgardner of Kings Mountain; two grand- children, Lt. Charles Baumgardner of Oklahoma City, Okla. and Tracey E. Baumgardner of Charlotte; four nieces, Mrs. Leon King and Mrs. Ernest Huffstetler, both of Bessemer City, Mrs. Roy Freeman of Gastonia and Mrs. Kenneth Bullard of Kings Mountain. GEORGE THOMPSON, JR. Funeral services for George Thompson, Jr., 66, of 121 North Deal Street, who died Wednesday in Cleveland Memorial Hospital, were con- ducted Friday afternoon at 2 .m. from Lutz Austell Chapel in Shelby by Rev. Cuz- tis McCarley, Jr., interment following in Shelby’s Sunset Cemetery. Mr. Thompson was a retired draftsman and son of the late George Thompson, Sr. and Jean Moore Thomp- son of Gaston County. He was a World War II Navy veteran. Burton, 69, of Route 3, who died Sunday morning at 7:25 a.m. in Kings Mountain Con- valescent Center after ex- tended illness, were con- ‘ducted Tuesday afternoon at 4 p.m. from Patterson Grove Baptist Church of which he was a member. Rev. Richard Plyler, Rev. J.J. Thornburg, and Rev. Mitchell Pruitt officiated at the rites and interment was in Patterson Grove Cemetery. Mr. Burton was a retired employee of Gamble Hard- ware and a World War II Ar- my veteran. He was a native of Gaston County, son of the late Martin and Agnes Bridges Burton, and was married to Ada Putnam Bur- ton, who survives. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two daughters, Mrs. Patricia Rayfield of Mat- thews and Mrs. Linda Farris of Bessemer City; one brother, Ira Burton of Cher- ryville; and three sisters, Mrs. Bessie Hamm of Kings Mountain, Mrs. Virgie An- thony of Cherryville and Mrs. Juanita Blanton of Kings Mountain; and three grand- children. Country Breakfast Saturday The men’s “fellowship of East Gold Street Wesleyan Church will have a country breakfast Saturday from 6-10 a.m, The menu. will include country ham, sausage, bacon, eggs, grits, gravy, cof- fee, juice, jelly and biscuits. A native of Cleveland Coun- ty, she was the daughter of the late John and Lottie Ran- Harry Page From Page 1-A School. In Kings Mountain, Page has also been active in civic affairs. He served as_ secretary-treasurer of the Lake Montonia Club and as President of the Kings Moun- tain’ Country Club. He was also‘president and director of Kings Mountain Kiwanis Club. Scouting and other ac- tivities for young people have been a special interest to Mr. Page who was himself a Boy Scout. He was instrumental in raising money for the first city recreational program. He served for five years as Troop Committeeman and Assistant Scoutmaster of Troop 1, sponsored by the First Presbyterian urch and later he became a member of the Board of Directors of the Piedmont Council of the Girl Scouts. Surviving, in addition to his wife, two daughters and two ° grandchildren, are his son-in- law, David Moreau; two brothers, James Page of Blacksburg, S.C. and William Page of Raleigh; and four sisters, Mrs. Mary Haigler of Statesville, Mrs. Jane Little of Lincolnton, Mrs. Ann Webster of Street, Md. and Mrs. Addie Mae Elomaa of Jacksonville, Fla. Bethware School many years before retirement. She and her husband had celebrated their 50th wedding anniver- sary. : Surviving, in addition to her husband, are her son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Betty Sue Morris of Kings Mountain; four sisters, Mrs. Ethel Yarbro, Mrs. Lalyage Hord and Miss Piccola Blalock, all of Kings Moun- tain, and Mrs. Gladys Wright of Grover; and three grand- children.
