MRS. SALLIE HAMILTON Funeral services for Mrs. Sallie Mae Hardin Hamilton, 71, of 107 Center St., who died Monday at Duke Hospital, will be conducted Thursday afternoon at 2 p.m. from . Temple Baptist Church. Dr. Jesse Johnson and Rev. Tim Spencer will officiate at the rites and interment will be in Mountain Rest Cemetery. A native of Cherokee Coun- ty, S.C., Mrs. Hamilton was e daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Furman Hardin and widow of Theodore Woodrow Hamilton. She was a retired textile employee. Surviving are her ‘daughter, Mrs. Virginia Causby and son-in-law, Noah (Junior) Causby and grand- daughter, Jacqueline Causby, of Kings Mountain; one brother, James Hardin of Lugoff, S.C., and two sisters, Mrs. Ora Lee Spencer of Smyrna, S.C., and Mrs. Rose Martin of Rock Hill, S.C. The family will receive friends Wednesday night from 7 until 9 p.m. at Harris Funeral Home. The family is at the Noah Causby home, 117 Colonial Drive. CHARLES HOWELL Funeral services for Charles Avery Howell, 55, of 504 S. Cansler St., who died in the Kings Mountain Hospital, were conducted Tuesday morning at 11 o’clock from Masters Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Bob Collins, interment following in Rebels Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Bakersville. Mr. Howell was employed with George Rahmann Belting Co. of Gastonia and was a veteran of the Korean War. He was the son of. the late Arthur and Mamie Boone Howell. Surviving are his wife, Josephine Ledford Howell; two sons, Charles David Howell of Grover and Randy Wayne Howell of Kings Mountain; four brothers, Ernest Howell of Johnson Ci- ty, Tenn., Gordon Howell of Spruce Pine, Roy Howell of Little Rock, Ark., and Ben Ray Howell of Charlotte; and four sisters, Margie Carver of Jonesboro, Tenn., Dorothy Norman of Piney Flats, Tenn., Myrtle Walker of Johnson City, Tenn. and Shelby Jean McMahan of Asheville. ODELL P. CHALK Odell Peak Chalk, 51, of 407 Cherry St., Gastonia, died Tuesday in Kings Mountain Hospital. He was a native of Chester County, S.C., son of Bubba Chalk and the late Mary Chalk. He was a member of St. James Baptist Church and was employed by Southern Gear Company. _ Surviving, in addition to his father, are his wife, Ella Mae Chalk; daughters, Vivian Byers and Mary Jane Chalk, both of Bessemer City, and Wanda Kay Falls of Gastonia; two sons, Anthony Byers of Shelby and Terry W. Chalk of Bessemer City; brother, George M. JEROME F. SPANGLER Funeral services for Jerome Franklin Spangler, 76, of Carolina Avenue, Grover, were held Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. from Grover’s First Baptist Church of which he was a member. Rev. Phillip Waugh and Dr. Bobby Gantt officiated at the rites and interment was in Grover Cemetery. Mr. Spangler died Thurs- day in Cleveland Memorial Hospital at Shelby. He was a native of Cleveland County, son of the late William Albert and Essie Cline Spangler and retired Minette Mill employee. He was a veteran of World War II and a member of the American Legion. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Ethel Beam Spangler; four daughters, Mrs. Jerri Thornburg of Cherryville, Mrs. Janet Eckard and Mrs. Abbey Ledford, both of Shelby, and Mrs. Sandra. Ellis of Crossnore; two brothers, W.A. As a retirement gift, the employees treated him to a luncheon at Holiday Inn and the Housing Authority of- ficers and directors presented him with a gold watch. Van Dyke, a Kings Mountain native, resides with his wife, Helen Lovelace Van Dyke, on West Gold Street. Mrs. Van Dyke is a member of the staff at Mauney Memorial Library. They have three children, Janelle, Robert and John Van Dyke, Jr., six grandchildren and one great-grandchild and are members of First Baptist Church. Retires John L. McGill, chairman of the board of the Kings Mountain Housing Authority, commended Van Dyke for his “hard work and diligence’’ at a recent meeting of the board of directors. Other members of the board are Carl Wilson, William Orr, Rev. M.L. Campbell and Don Parker.
