“Entering a beauty pageant is a real
boost to a middle aged woman nearing age
40”, believes Sandy, whose sunny disposi-
tion and pleasing personality belies her 39
years. Judges will choose the new Mrs.
North Carolina-America on beauty of face
and figure, poise, personality and in-
telligence and will score contestants on how
articulate they are, style and grace of walk
and if they possess a mature and happy
outlook on life as evidenced in their answers
during an interview with the judges.

A Kings Mountain teacher for six years,
Mrs. Shockley has been PE instructor at
Grover School for three years. Daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. O.C. Kiser, Jr. of Kings Moun-
tain, she graduated from high school in
Sylmar, Calif. and studied at Valley Col-
lege, Cleveland Technical College and
Gaston College. Her hobbies are reading,
- working out with weights and walking.
Her fourth and fifth grade students are
just as excited as their teacher, says Sandi,
until she gives them an extra lap around the
gymnasium. Na
“Sometimes I wake up in the middle of
the night and think about that speech but I
know the pageant will be an experience of a
lifetime’’, she says, a big smile lighting up
