The congregation celebra-

Thompson and the installa-
tion of new red carpet in the
sanctuary.
After the service, the
women of the church enter-
tained at a reception and
served shrimp, vegetables
and dip, fresh fruit, nuts,
mints, cheese, crackers,
punch ‘and coffee. .

Ware, Esther Muench, Con-
nie Marlowe, Eloise Smith,
Nancy Camp, Marlene

raising United Way drives
puts undue burden on in-
dustry since some industry in

both campaigns. Currently,
the Cleveland County United
- Way raises money
everywhere in the county ex-
cept Kings Mountain city
limits. The Kings Mountain
campaign, however, con-
siders the Kings Mountain
School district its fundraising
territory.
Directors object to cam-
paign consolidation because
they fear contributions lost
from Gaston County in-
dustries. ‘Kings Mountain
splits county lines and if we
merge we feel we’ll lose
them’’ said Wilson. He said
this would amount to 10 or 15
percent of its funding from
Gaston County industries.
Directors said merger would
result in decreased participa-
tion from Kings Mountain
workers and reduction in
gifts to much-needed causes
and agencies.
A committee composed of
Grady Howard, Bill Davis,
Ernest Rome, Joel Jenkins,
Mark Wilson and Lavon
Strickland was approved in
December to continue to
negotiate with Cleveland
County United Way concern-
ing the problem of recruiting
the same industries.
