These students were invited to the NCSU campus to par- ticipate in February scholar- ship interviews. From the 220, 80 finalists will be chosen to receive scholarships for the freshman year at N.C. State. More than 1,350 seniors from 28 states applied for merit awards, according to Patricia J. Lee, coordinator of the Merit Awards Pro- gram. The finalists will com- pete for universitywide awards that range from a tui- tion and fees scholarship for the freshman year to the prestigious John Tyler Caldwell Alumni Scholar- ship, which is valued at $3,000 for in-state students and $4,500 for out-of-state students and is renewable for up to four years. Finalists also will be eligi- ble for a number of other scholarships awarded by in- dividual schools at N.C. State. Recipients are chosen on the basis of their outstanding academic record, active par- ticipation in school and com- munity activities and their potential academic success at the university. Miss Bradley is the daughter of Joan H. Bradley of 903 Sherwood Lane and Robert L. Bradley of Kings Mountain. She is a senior at Kings Mountain Senior High School where she is a member of the Beta Club and of the National Honor Society and attended the Governors School. She plans to study engineering. Attends Leadership Program Kamie Wiggins was one of 144 senior high school students who attended the Sixth Annual President’s Leadership Program at Con- verse College in Spartan- burg, S.C. The weekend course em- phasized leadership training and personal development. Students had an opportunity to tour the campus and to meet faculty members. Wiggins is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Wig- gins, Ellenwood Drive, Kings Mountain, N.C.
