KAREN HELMS CHAD HUNTSINGER Sy. ; Br ot HOLLY GOFORTH | Schools Spelling Bee Is Friday Seven Kings Mountain students will vie for the honor of being Kings Mountain’s Spelling Champion in a district-wide spelling bee F'ri- day at 1 p.m. at the Board Room of the Superintendent’s Office on Parker Street. They are Shawn Burton, of North School; Chad Hunts- inger of West School; Holly Goforth of Grover School; Sherman Witcher of East School; Karen Helms of Cen- tral School; Melanie Dixon of Bethware School and Kristin Tyson of Kings Mountain Junior High School. i Shawn. Burton; fi Mickey and Debra Burton of 1012 Second Street. A Good Citizen, he enjoys playing basketball and collecting cards and is interested in computers. He has par- ticipated in spelling bees in both the third and fourth grades. He listed his favorite book as the Encyclopedia Brown series. Chad Huntsinger, fifth grader at West School, is the son of Gene and Janet Hunts- inger of 605 Southwood Drive. He likes all Spars and enjoys playing baseball. He was the winner of the 1984-85 spelling bee at West School and is the recipient of the 1985 DAR Award. ; Daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Goforth of Route 3, Blacksburg, S.C., Holly Goforth, Grover fifth grader, is a member of the fifth grade basketball team and her hob- bies are drawing, Dainiing reading and basketball. She won second place in the art contest and third place in the computer graphics contest at grader Grover School and won the recent Grover Bee by spell- ing correctly the words ja- quard and deceitful. Sherman Witcher, son of Sylvia Witcher of 819 Floyd Street, enjoys football and basketball and plays on a team sponsored oy Parker’s Amoco. He is a fifth grader at East School. Karen Helms, daughter of Mr, and Mrs. Melvin Helms of Route 2, is a sixth grader at Central School and was spell- ing bee winner at Bethware in 1985, Good Citizen of the Year and was listed on the A Fitness Award. She enjoys reading, drawing and story writing. Melanie Heather Dixon, fifth grader at Bethware, is the daughter of Dwight and Kathy Dixon of Route 6. She was 1986 DAR Essay winner at Bethware, and her her poem, “North Carolina, A Rich Heritage’ published by the N.C. Young Writers Association last year. She en- joys reading and writing stories, ballet, computers and scientific experiments. Kristin Tyson, eighth grader at KM Junior High, is the daughter of William and Mary Ann Tyson of 904 Sher- wood Drive and is a recent winner in the district science fair. She likes to read, draw, sew and babysit. The winner of the district wide spelling bee advances to the regional Bee sponsored by the Charlotte Observer and a chance to attend the na- fiona! Bee in Washington, D.C. Relatives Attend Wedding Of Robin And Carl Plonk Captain and Mrs. W.F. Brewer of Henderson, great aunt and great uncle of the bridegroom-elect and sisters and brothers-in-law of the bridegroom-elect have returned home after atten- ding the wedding of Robin Sabucco and Carl Neisler Plonk. Sisters of Mr. Plonk ar Mrs. Bill Boone of Washington, Mrs. Gary Ball of Lenoir and Mrs. Robert Strachan of Burlington. Hosting the luncheon for 15 guests was Mrs. Judy Scism. Miss Sabucco took the oc- casion to present gifts to members of her bridal party. The pink and creme theme of the wedding was beautiful- ly featured in table decora- tions and appointments. Pink rosebuds centered the lun- cheon table which was overlaid with white linen cloths and arranged with pink napkins. Roast beef with all the trimmings was served. Toasts were made to the bride by the hostess prior to the serving of the meal. Present as special guests were the bride-elect’s mother, Mrs. Flaviano Sabucco, and Mrs. John O.
