-— { ~rell Austin, Wildlife Public Hearing Set The Wildlife Resources Commis- sion will hold a public hearing regulations for the 1986-87 North Carolina on Proposed changes i: hun- ishing an apping ting, KM Strikers, Demons Win In Youth Bowling The KM Strikers swept four games from the Strikers and the Duck Pin Demons won three of four from the Duck Busters in Youth Bowling League action Saturday at Dilling Heating. : Jonathan Jones rolled a 98 line and 290 set, Scott Myers added a 94-254 and Kenneth Butler had a 96-248 to lead the Demons over the Duck Busters. Amy Carrigan led the losers with a 91 line and 256 set, Mark Stacy added a 90-229 and Roger Hamm had an 85-236. ; Tim Fletcher’s 103 line and 259 set and Robbie Hullender’s 95 line and 268 series led the KM Strikers over the Strikers. Brad Roberts added a 97 line and 244 set for the winners. Jeff Huffstetler had a 77 line and 225 set and Kevin Parker add- ed a 76 line and 228 set for the losers. Softball Meeting Set An organizational softball meeting will be held at the Kings Mountain Community Center, Thursday, March 13, at 6 p.m. Any team interested in participating should attend. This 1s the second and final organizational meeting for the Industrial Softball League. For additional infor- mation, contact the Kings Mountain Recreation Depart- ment at 739-9631. Mountaineer Golf Team Third Thursday At Burns Kings Mountain High’s olfers finished third in a our-team Southwestern 3-A Conference match Thursday at Pine Grove. R-S Central won the event, followed by host Burns, KM and North Gaston. Paul Hendricks was low scorer for the Mountaineers with an 89. Bo Ballard, Bryant Wells, Chris Herndon and Jamie Belcher also plac- ed for KM. The Mounties travel to Gallagher Trails Thursday to face North Gaston, Chase and South Point. KMHS Seftball Team 4-1 Kings Mountain High’s girls softball team posted four victories during the past week to run their early- season record to 4-1. The Mountainettes whip- ped Shelby 7-3 and Pisgah 11-8 in Saturday’s roundrobin .at KM. Junior High, and. ‘defeated Bessemer City 28-14" “Monday and Crest 8-5 Tues- day. - Sports Hall Of Kings Mountain Mayor John Henry Moss today an- nounced the formation of a committee which will be responsible for organizing a Sports Hall of Fame for Kings Mountain. Members of the committee include Gary Stewart, Dar- Dr. Grady Howard Jr., Jim Cloninger, Carl Champion, Dr. John McGill, Charlie Ballard, Lynne Mauney, Denny Hicks, Jonas Bridges, Margaret Williams, Bill Grissom, George Adams, John McGin- nis, John Blalock and Mayor Moss. Mayor Moss said he has asked Charlie Horne of Shelby and Charlie (Choo Choo) Justice of Cherryville, both members of the North ~ Carolina Sports Hall of Fame committee, to advise the local committee during its structuring period. This hearing will be held at the Morganton Junior High School in Morganton and will be at 7 p.m. ’ According to Dr. Jack Hamrick of Shelby, Wildlife Commissioner for District 8, ‘Several proposed regulation changes will have an impact on our district. It is important that sportsmen attend this meeting and comment on these changes. After con- sidering the comments of sportsmen across North Carolina, the Wildlife Com- mission will adopt final regulations at our April meeting.” Proposed regulation changes impacting District 8 include the following: A proposal to change the bag limit for quail from 10 to 8 birds per day and eliminate the season limit. A proposal to conduct small game research on quail and rabbit to develop manage- ment techniques to increase their numbers. A proposal to have a man- datory check system for hunters on three game lands. This would include a pro- gram for mandatory check in and out of all deer hunters on the Thurmond Chatham Game Land in Wilkes county. “We hope that everyone in- terested in Wildlife Commis- sion programs and activities will attend these meetings,” states Hamrick. “This public hearing will give sportsmen the opportunity to comment on these and other proposed regulation changes. Their in- put is important to the Com- mission and to the future of this state’s wildlife resources.” The Wildlife Commission’s District 8 includes the follow- ing counties: Yancey, Mit- chell, Avery, McDowell, Burke, Caldwell, Catawba, Lincoln, Gaston, Cleveland and Rutherford.
