Beginning at 8:30 a.m. parents will attend an orien- tation session with the prin- cipal while their kindergart- ners begin a typical school day in the classroom. Includ- ed in the child’s experience will be listening, viewing, singing, games, a trip around the school, introduction to the various school personnel, and lunch in the cafeteria. Parents will pick up their children following lunch. To be eligible for kindergarten a child must be forms from their child’s school. These should be com- pleted and brought to the school on May 16 along with the child’s legal birth cer- tificate (not the hospital record), his immunization record, and a copy of the physical examination by the. family physician or Health Department. All children should be screened in their respective school district. If a parent does not know which school his child will attend, he should contact the District School Office at 739-4589. eS Wearing Seat Off For Four During the month of March, students at Kings Mountain Senior High were given incentives, at random, for wearing their seatbelts. From were given to students whose names were drawn by Ronnie Wilson, Principal and Paula Hildebrand, Health Coor- dinator. Prize winners were: Katherine Harper, $25.00 sav- ings bond donated by First National Bank of Shelby; Regina Brown, $25.00 gift cer- tificate donate by Dellinger’s Jewel Shop of Kings Mountain; Paul Terry, Solar desk calculator donated by PPG Industries of Shelby; and Susie Moore, 1986-87 Athletic pass, donated by Kings Mountain Senior High. The Seatbelt Incentive Pro- gram Committee applied for: and received a $1,000.00 grant from--the--North--Carolina-- ~ Public Health Association, Inc. Because of these grant monies, four additional $25.00 Dries drawings will be possi- le for all four high schools participating in the seatbelt project. The seatbelt program has now entered the follow-up stage. Wearing data will con- tinue to be collected twice a week until May 15. At the end of the project, the school which has main- tained the highest seatbelt wearing percentage will receive a VCR donated by K-Mart of Shelby. This will be given during the Awards Day ceremony to the ‘winning ‘school. Recent data shows the average wearing rates dur- ing the incentive phase as Kings Mountain Senior High, 62.9%, Shelby Senior High 60.3%, Crest Senior High 53.5%, and Burns Senior High 51.7%. Central Spring Festival To Be Held On May 2 Central School Spring Festival will be Friday, May 2. The activities will begin at 3:30 with a country store, bake sale, male fashion show, car smash. Miss Spring Festival will be crowned that afternoon to reign over the activities. The hot dog supper will be from 5:00-7:30. Tickets are $1.50 with dessert extra. Any parents who are will- ing to work at the hot dog sup- per call the school at 739-3641. The activities will conclude with The Legend Concert from 7:00-8:00 in the auditorium. Admission is $2.00 for advance tickets and $3.00 at the door.
