KMHS Golfers Post First Win
Kings Mountain High's
golfers won their first
Southwestern 3-A Conference
match in five years Thursday
at Pine Grove.
The Mountaineers posted a
341 team score to best three
other SWC schools. North
Gaston finished second with a
349, Chase was third with 353
and host Burns fourth with
364.
Kings Mountain’s Bryant
Wells was medalist for the
match with an 81.
Other KM scores included
Eric Hicks 84, Bo Ballard 86,
and Jamie Belcher and Chris
Herndon 90 each.
The Mountaineers travel to
Shelby Thursday to face the
Golden Lions, North Gaston,
and East Rutherford.
Ledford Wins Dag-Gone Golf Tourney
Carol Ledford fired a 131 to
win the Dag-Gone Handicap
Golf Tournament Saturday
and Sunday at Kings Moun-
tain Country Club.
Ledford won by seven
strokes over Brenda Sellers,
who had a 138. Bill Sellers
was third with a 141.
Phil Russ won the first
flight with a 138 total. Eric
Spicer and Stoney Jackson
tied for second with 140
scores.
Mary Broadwell won the
second flight with a 153,
followed by Ned Lilly at 154
and Jerry Broadwell at 158.
Ken Cloninger took third
flight honors with a 159.
Margie Yancey was second
at 161 and George Bowen
third at 166.
The Couples Member-
Member Tournament will be
held this weekend. Golfers
who have not yet signed up
are urged to sign up at the pro
shop.
Junior High Wrestlers In Magazine
The Kings Mountain Junior
High wrestling team and six
of its members were
recognized in the March issue
of Wrestling US.A.,, a na-
tional publication which
features high school and col-
lege wrestlers.
Kings Mountain Junior
High was cited for having
won the Western N.C. Junior
High Athletic Association for
nine straight years and in-
dividuals Chris Henson, Andy
Hollifield, D.J. Williams,
Bradley Henderson, Lyn
Goddard and Johnny Nations
were recognized for having
gone undefeated during the
past season.

noted KM Coach Phil
Weathers. “It’s an honor for
a junior high to be included in
the magazine and our
wrestlers are real excited
about it.”
