BOOK OFF PRESS - Bobby Bridges, Elizabeth Conner and Oscar Stalcup, left to eg a ee Teint right, look over the first copies of the cover for Mrs. Conner’s book “Through The Valley” which is now off the press and available for sale at $3 per copy. Mrs. Conner Writes Book Elizabeth Owensby Con- ner, a Bessemer City native and current resident of Gastonia, has a story to tell about her faith in God and how it cured her from what was described as an “in- operable” tumor in her spine, and feels her story can best be told through a short 75-page book “Through The Valley” which will be on sale in the area next week. “Mrs. Conner’s tumor was found in 1979 and she first was told that the only hospital where a successful operation could be performed was in Zurich, Switzerland. But, Dr. Jerry H. Greenhoot attemp- ted it at Charlotte’s Presbyterian Hospital, and although removal of the tumor was successful, it was feared that the 18-hour opera- dion would leave her paralyz- ed. She has gradually improv- ed and feels she is completely healed despite an occasional cramp in one hand and less than 100 percent use of one, ‘leg. She spends much time gardening and keeping house for her husband, Charles, and children Robin and Randy, all members of Evangel Assembly of God in Gastonia where Rev. Rufus Johnson is pastor. Mrs. Conner says that it was in the hospital room following surgery when she felt a miracle was in the mak- ing and she began dreaming of sharing her story through a book. She left the hospital on Dec. 22, 1979, able to take on- ly one or two steps at a time on her own. Efforts to find a publisher to tell her short story were not successful until she hap- pened upon a book written and published by Rev. Oscar Stalcup, also a Bessemer City native and pastor of Fours- quare Gospel Church in Kings Mountain. She con- tacted Stalcup and he laid aside a second book that he is working on to concentrate on getting her story told. The story covers Mrs. Con- ner’s struggles and suffering after learning of the tumor, the long hours of waiting and worrying, the surgery, and her long hours of rehabilita- tion, Shai ; “From her faith in God, coupled with her fight and determination to live and regain her health, she has successfully gone through the darkest valley of her life,” Dixon Presbyterian To Meet Student Intern Dixon Presbyterian Church members will meet their summer intern, Scott Arm- strong, and members of his family, at a covered dish sup- per at the church Saturday night at 6 p.m. Armstrong, a student at Columbia Theological GOSPEL SINGING There will be a singing Sun- day at 2:30 p.m. at Cherokee Street Baptist Church, featuring the Epps Family of Belton, S.C.
