JESSIE PETTIGREW Funeral services for Jessie Lee Beasley Pettigrew, 79, of Route 1, Grover, who died Sunday, were conducted Thursday at 4 p.m. from Long Branch Baptist Church, interment following in the church cemetery. Dr. R.D. Abbott and Rev. L.L. Sellars officiated. A Hartsville, S.C. native, she was the daughter of the late Boyd and Mary Jeff Beasley and the widow of the late Grover Cleveland Pet- tigrew. She was a member of the Electa Chapter No. 12 Order of the Eastern Star and the Queen of Sheba Court No. 1. She was a member of Long Branch First Baptist Church, where she served in the church missionary depart- ment and on the deaconess board. Surviving are two sons, Franklin Pettigrew of East Orange, N.J. and Darius Pet- tigrew of Grover; three daughters, Mattie Spikes of High Point, Vivian King of Washington, D.C., and Margaret Bellamy of East Orange, N.J.; two brothers, Joseph Beasley and Boyd Beasley, Jr. of Grover; four sisters, Bertha Jennings of Washington, D.C., Edith Bur- son of Asheville, Lessie Mad- dox of Shelby and Mary Johnson of Grover; one foster sister, Geraldine Accor of Jersey City, N.J., 11 grand- children and six great- ° grandchildren. J.W. TIMBERLAKE Joseph W. ‘‘Buck’’ Timberlake died in his sleep at his home at Lake Wac- camaw on June 5. He was a native of Gastonia, NC, the son of Joseph W. Timberlake, Sr. and Lillian Christmas Timberlake. After attending Belmont Abbey Junior College, he graduated from the Universi- ty of North Carolina where he majored in journalism. In Ju- ly, 1941, he entered the U.S. Army Air Corps as a Private and served overseas during - World War II in England, North Africa, Sicily and Ita- ly. He was honorably discharged in 1945 with the rank of major. He remained in the reserves and was re- called to active duty during the Korean War, assigned to the Pentagon as Public Infor- mation Officer in the Office of Secretary of the Air Force. He later served as the Air Force member of the Joint Services Committee which planned and implemented the first Armed Services Day in 1950. From 1951-1953, Mr. Timberlake worked on the marketing staff of W.L. Sten- sagaard and Associates of New York City and from 1953 to 1961 was associated with Jefferson Standard Broad- casting Co. in Charlotte, where he was Regional Sales Manager. He left Charlotte to become Vice-President of the Mary Baldwin College in Staunton, VA. He re-joined Jefferson Standard Broad- casting in 1969 as Vice- President and Managing Director of WWBT Televi- sion, its NBC affiliate in Rich- mond, VA. In 1973 he joined the marketing staff of Bald Head Island, Southport, where he became Director of Marketing. He retired in June of 1985. Mr. Timberlake was an Eagle Scout and served as a member of Council Ex- ecutive Boards in Staunton, Richmond, and Columbus County. At the time of his death he was a member of The Lake Waccamaw Presbyterian Church and Ex- ecutive Board of the Good Shepherd Home of Lake Wac- camaw. He leaves his wife Betty Neisler Timberlake, a son, Joseph W. Timberlake, IIT of Richmond, two daugnters, Timberlake Ruth of Kitty Hawk, N.C. and Victoria Timberlake Burton of Southport and five grand- .children. Mrs. Timberlake is the former Betty Neisler of Kings Mountain. LOU RIPPY Funeral services for Lou Ella Rippy, 48, of Route 1, Grover, who died Sunday at her home, were conducted Robyn- OBITUNRIES Tuesday morning at 11 a.m. from New Buffalo Baptist Church of which she was a member, interment following in Mount Paran Cemetery. A Cleveland County native, she was the daughter of the late William Talmage and Iver Mae Head Rippy. She was employed by Minette Mills. Surviving are two brothers, Bobby George Rippy of Shelby and Kenneth Dean Rippy of Patterson Springs; and five sisters, Elizabeth Blanton: of Grover, Brenda Mace of Kings Mountain, Mrs. Gene Whitworth of Pat- terson Springs, Velvia Martin of Shelby and Patricia Howell of Grover. Lovelace, Sr., 60, of Route 2, who died Wednes- day in the Kings Mountain Hospital, were conducted Friday at 3 p.m. from Oak Grove Baptist Church of which he was a member, in- terment f{sliowing in the church cemetery. Rev. Russell Hinton and Rev. Sam Snyder officiated. Mr. Lovelace was a Cleveland county native, son of Nannie Ross Lovelace of Kings Mountain and the late Melvin Clyde Lovelace and a veteran.
