Penley’s Chapel Church
was the setting Saturday for
the 7 p.m. candlelight wed-
ding uniting Miss Tracy
Michelle Summitt and David
Bryan Turner in marriage.
Rev. Marvin Whisnant and
Rev. Leonard Huffstetler of-
ficiated at the double-ring
ceremony.
Mrs. Evelyn Bridges was
organist for the program of
wedding music and vocal
selections were by Mike
Chambers and Teresa Falls.
The bride was given in
marriage by her father. She
wore a formal gown of white
silk organza and Alencon lace
designed along empire lines
with high neckline, bisho
sleeves and full skirt whic
had a flowing train. Her
fingertip veil of illusion was
attached to a headpiece of
pearls. She carried a bouquet
of spring flowers. For
“something old’’, she wore a
bracelet which belonged to
the bridegroom’s great
grandmother Turner.
Leslie Summitt attended
her sister as maid of honor
and bridesmaids were
Stephanie Hopper of Shelby,
Le Anne Gann and Paula
Hopson, both of Kings Moun-
tain, and Anna Williams of
Shelby. Sara Ellen Greene,
niece of the bridegroom, of
Route 1, Casar, was child at-
tendant.
All the attendants wore
rainbow colored formals and
carried matching summer
bouquets.
Joe Turner of Kings Moun-
tain was his son’s best man.
Ushers were Jason Turner
of Durham and Roger Camp,
Tony Yarbro, and Phillip
Greene, all of Kings Moun-
tain.
After the ceremony, the
bride’s parents entertained

at a beautifully-appointed
wedding reception in the
church fellowship hall where
the wedding cake was cut and
served with punch and party
refreshments. The rainbow
theme of the wedding
featured decoration.

ENGAGEMENT ANNOUNCED - The engagement of Miss
Kimberly Diane Roper to Lewis Baton Izzi, Jr. is announced
by her parents, Mrs. James Ted Guffey of Kings Mountain
and Don Roper, Sr. of Grover. Mr. Izzi is the son of Mr. and
Mrs. L.B. Izzi, Sr. of Shelby. Miss Roper, granddaughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Whetstine of Grover and Mrs. Mamie
Roper of Kings Mountain and the late Ivy Roper, is a 1981
graduate of KMSHS and is employed as bookkeeper for
Friedman’s Jewelers of Shelby. Mr. 1zzi, grandson of Mr. and
Mrs. Bruce Brown of Shelby and the late Mr. and Mrs. An-
tonio Izzi of Vetaguso, Italy, is a 1977 graduate of Shelby High
School and is Marketing
Director for Plastic Oddities of
Shelby. A July wedding is planned in Shelby’s Flint Hill Bap-
tist Church.

Each guest’s place was
marked by a complimentary
crystal vase holding white
breath and white feverfew,
the handle of the vase holding
a full burgundy bow.
Appetizers were served to
arriving guests.
The wedding blessing was
prayed by the hostess.
A luncheon of sauteed
chicken breast top with
asparagus and hollandaise
sauce was served with stuff-
ed baked tomatoes,
miniature spring potatoes
topped with penley butter
sauce, hot rolls, tea and cof-
fee with strawberry parfait
for dessert.
Miss Tulbert wore a light
ink linen suit and a white
louse with white ac-
cessories.
Miss Ware wore a white
pleated skirt with white top
and aqua jacket with white
accessories.

honored Jennifer Campbell
at a salad dinner on June 4 at
the home of Mrs. David Dill-
ing on Allison Court.
Each club member brought
a salad dish.
The dining room table was
decorated with beautiful spr-
ing flowers.
The guests presented Miss
Campbell with Christmas or-
naments for her first
Christmas tree.

In an impressive service of
reverence and beauty Miss
Sarah Marlar Hunt and
Christopher Stevenson
Crosby were wed at 4 p.m.
Saturday, June 7th, in a home
ceremony at the home of the
bride’s sister and brother-in-
law, Dr. and Mrs. Charles
Denby II, 103 Prospect
Street, Providence, Rhode
Island.
The Rev. Kathleen S.
Henry, of the Congregational
Church, heard their vows.
The bride’s father Andrew
Martin Hunt, escorted her
and gave her in marriage.
The bride’s formal gown was
an Original design by
Priscilla of Boston of white
Italian silk peau de soie with
fitted bodice and short puffed
sleeves. The skirt was full
with bustle back which
spread into a chapel length
train. Her fingertip veil of
bridal illusion was attached
to a circlet of roses. She car-
ried an arm bouquet of brides
roses laced with greenery
and tied with white satin rib-
bons. She wore pearls and
matching earrings which had
belonged to her mother and
she carried a lace trimmed
handkerchief given to her by
the bridegroom’s mother.
Her attendants wore for-
mal gowns of ice pink
fashioned along similar lines
to the bride’s gown. Her
sister, Megan Hunt
Szymkowicz of Bradford,
N.H., served as matron of
honor and Anne James
- Ficklen of New York City was
maid of honor. They carried
arm bouquets of nies in
shades of pink tied with pink
ribbon.
Serving as best man was
Christopher Glenn Mauney of
South Salem, N.Y., cousin of
the bridegroom. Ushers were
James Greene Hunt of Pro-
vidence, brother of the bride,
and Christopher Queen of
Monroe, cousin of the
bridegroom.
Music for the ceremony
was provided by a trio and
among selections played
~ were Bach’s “Ode To Joy’,
Handel’s ‘“Water Music’,
and the traditional “Wedding
March” by Lohengrin from
Mendelssohn’s ‘Midsummer
Night’s Dream.”
The bride’s mother wore a
street-length dress of lilac
mist silk with matching satin
slippers. The bridegroom’s
mother chose a street-length
dress of yellow chiffon with
matching slippers.
Immediately following the
ceremony the bride’s parents
entertained at a beautifully
appointed reception at The
Agawam Hunt in East Pro-
vidence.
The club was decorated
throughout with ar-
rangements of peonies in
shades of white to deep pink
and Rubrum lilies. Dinner
was served and guests seated
at round tables covered with
pink cloths centered with tall
arrangements of peonies and
lilies. The five tier wedding
cake was placed on a round
table and was surrounded by
fresh flowers in shades of
pink and interspersed with
ridal greenery. Dancing
was enjoyed by the guests to
music by Ralph Stuart Or-
chestra.
The bride is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Martin |
Hunt of Providence. She is a
graduate of The Wheeler
School and earned her B.A.
degree from Sarah Lawrence
College, New York, where
she is in the Masters degree
program in Developmental
Psychology. She is also a free
lance fashion consultant in
New York City.

daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Miller James Bowman of
Shelby, is presented in the 41st annual Shelby Debutante Ball
Saturday night. Miss Miller holds the hand of her father, as
assistant marshall John Russell Siers assists in her presenta-
tion. She is the granddaughter of Rev. and Mrs. Edwin
McGinnis and great-granddaughter of Mrs. H.H. McGinnis.
Eleven local young women were among the 109 debutantes
who made their debut in Malcolm E. Brown School Civic
Auditorium. ;
