SE Dry Forces To Meet Sunday From Page 1-A “We're not against people having free ex- pression at the polls but we feel that an elec- tion every three years is a waste of tax- payers money,”’ Rev. Land says. Kings Mountain Committee For Legal Control is headed by Claude Suber and Kemp Mauney and numerous petitions are being circulated in town calling for a vote that would lead to the sale of malt ‘beverages for off-premise consumption; the sale of malt beverages for on premise con-. sumption by hotels, motels and restaurants, Class A: the on and off premise sale of un- fortified wine; and the operation of an ABC KM Man Faces store. Suber said 600 people had signed the petitions. Becky Cook, chairman of the KM Board of Elections, said the committee will have to collect 1,100 names (25 percent of the registered vosters of 4,400) and if the ABC petitions are successful, the elections board could call for an election as early as February, no sooner than 60 days and no longer than 120 days after the signatures are verified. A record 64 percent of the registered voters of the city turned out for the ABC referendum three years ago. Similar measures were defeated by citizens in 1948 and 1975 but by larger margins. z Murder Charges From Page 1-A Witnesses told officers that McClain, Sr., who was at his parents’ home gisting his son, was attempting to leave with the boy when Darlene ran toward him. Fortenberry said that James Everette McClain had gone to the bedroom and picked up his gun, his motorcycle jacket and his helmet and may have been holding the gun in his left hand at the time it fired. A Cleveland County native, Miss McClain was employed as a seamstress with Cleve- mont Mills and was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church. She was named ‘’Most Outstanding Cheerleader’’ at Kings Mountain High School in 1979. Surviving are her parents, Howard and Joann Huff McClain of the home; a daughter, Jennifer McClain TRINITY DAY SCHOOL 303 Phifer Rd., Kings Mtn., N.C. 28086 Is now enrolling children for the 1986-87 school year which begins September 2.
