Mission Bean Soup Will Be Part Of Annual Bazaar Cooler weather usually calls for soup and members of Circle 3 of Central United Methodist Church are coun- ting on busy and hungry bazaar-goers at the annual Christmas bazaar Oct. 1 to stock up on Mission Bean Soup, nine kinds of beans prepared ind a ‘soup mix” along with a recipe for the delicious meal-in-one. Circle Chairman Pat Plonk calls the soup “Mission Bean Soup” and all members are preparing the assorted beans in small packets enough for two and one half quarts of soup. Each member attests to its goodness. Mary Dilling, general chairman of the annual church bazaar, says each cir- cle has a different idea for a project at the bazaar and that the bazaar this year from 10 a.m. until 9.p.m. on Oct: 1 will feature many more items than ever before and is the largest ever assembled under the roof of Central United Methodist Church Educa- tional Building. A Holiday Room will in- clude beautiful iczms to decorate your home for Christmas and for those special gifts. A Crafts Room and Country Store will feature handmade gifts, arts and crafts, homemade goodies, cakes, pies, and canned items. A drawing will be held for a beautiful afghan made by Winifred Fulton. Marilyn Hamrick will serve as treasurer, Becky Huffstetler as lial chair- man and Mary Dilling as crafts chairman. Circle 3’s recipe for mis- sion bean soup: Wash beans thoroughly. Place in large kettle, cover with water. Add 2 teaspoons salt and soak overnight. Drain. Add 2 quarts water and ham or ham hock. Cover and bring to a boil; reduce heat and simmer 2% to 3 hours and add: 1large onion; one large can tomatoes, coarsely chopped; one pod red pepper, optional, or 1 teaspoon chili powder; juice of one lemon; and salt and pepper to taste. Simmer another 30 ' minutes, stirring occasional- ly. Remove ham hock from soup. Remove meat from bone, chop meat and return to soup. Serve with crackers or cornbread and a salad: Yield, 215 quarts. Church members donating items to the bazaar are asked to price them before taking them to the church on Sun- day, Sept. 28, from 9 until 10 a.m. and on Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 29-30, during church office hours. Proceeds are earmarked for a new air conditioning project. CASEY HAMRICK Casey Is One Casey Hamrick, son of Mike and Be-Be Hamrick, celebrated his first birthday September 15th. He is the grandson of Shirley and Gilbert Hamrick and Russell and Sue Wease, all of Kings Mountain, and great-grandson of Mary Jane and Wilbur Hamrick. Family and friends were invited to the Hamrick home to oh a decorated birthday cake.
